Spears and Timberlake dated for three years in the early 2000s, with each partner accusing the other of cheating afterward.

Timberlake, in his hit song "Cry Me A River," insinuated that Spears had been unfaithful, while she returned the sentiments in her 2023 memoir, "The Woman in Me," where she claimed that he was the cheater and that she had an abortion while they were together because he wasn't ready to be a father.

Spears' cryptic post came after the "Friends With Benefits" actor was pulled over and faced charges for driving while intoxicated.

The 43-year-old singer was arrested in New York in the early hours of Tuesday after leaving the posh American Hotel in Sag Harbor, Long Island.

As seen in charging documents, he was stopped after he allegedly blew past a stop sign in his grey BMW and failed to stay on the right side of the road, per the BBC. He reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test three times, with the document adding that his speech was slow and that he performed poorly on the officer's sobriety test.

The document also noted that the "No Strings Attached" singer's eyes were "bloodshot and glassy," and a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath."

Timberlake allegedly told the officer who stopped him that he "had one martini" and followed "my friends home." He was released without bail after being charged and is now scheduled for a virtual Sag Harbor court hearing on July 26.

His lawyer, Edward Burke Jr, said that he "will vigorously defend his client and is currently engaged in the Discovery process with the District Attorney's Office."

According to the New York Post, an eyewitness gave an account of Timberlake's time at the posh American Hotel in Sag Harbor, LI, where he'd partied with friends.

The anonymous source disclosed that the "Mirrors" singer took someone else's drink from the table and gulped it when the owner went to the bathroom and was heavily drunk when he left the party.

"He was wasted. At one point, just before closing, somebody got up to go to the bathroom and left his drink on the table," the source explained.

"When [the man] came back, [Timberlake] was drinking his drink. The guy goes, 'Justin, that's my drink!'" the source added.

If convicted of the charges, the former NSYNC member could face up to a year in jail, although he's unlikely to receive such a harsh penalty.

According to the New York Post, Suffolk County criminal defense lawyer Michael Brown has shared that Timberlake is likely to get a slap on the wrist, but that wouldn't be because of his celebrity status.

The legal expert predicted that the singer's attorney would likely bid for a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired (DWAI) and face a maximum penalty of 15 days in jail or a fine of up to $500.

"That's a violation as opposed to a crime," Brown said, adding that the charge comes with only a maximum penalty of 15 days in jail but noting, "It won't happen. What will happen is a fine of up to $500."

Brown seemingly reassured the "Sexyback" singer's fans that he's in "good hands," as his attorney, Edwin Burke Jr., is "a very good attorney, very-well known, established with the DAs in Suffolk County."

"I don't think [the DA's Office] will make an example of him, nor will they be more lenient. I think the case will rise and fall on the merits of the case," he said, going on to warn that the DA's office has a penchant for being "fairly tough" in cases where offenders refuse to take a Breathalyzer test.
