Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, 27, was accused of dragging the mother of his child down a flight of stairs and injuring her before his arrest on Sunday. He was charged with second-degree domestic violence/burglary.

This marks the second off-field incident in less than three weeks for the NFL player, who was also charged with two second-degree animal cruelty misdemeanors in late May, also in Tuscaloosa.

The victim, who is also the mother of Buggs's child, informed police that Isaiah Buggs broke into her residence in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with a tire iron around 5:28 a.m., then went upstairs to confront her. He then allegedly dragged her down the stairs before he was arrested.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Tuscaloosa Police Department officers said the woman claimed Isaiah Buggs dragged her down the stairs, which led her to break off several "clip-on toenails." The report also states the woman had "scratch marks" on her wrist from the incident.

She scared him off by informing him she called the police, and he fled in a white Cadillac. The NFL star was located in a nearby parking lot and was placed under arrest.

He was on a 24-hour domestic violence hold with a bond set at $5,000 and was released early Monday, per a local news station.

This arrest comes weeks after Buggs was linked to animal cruelty charges, per civil documents filed in Tuscaloosa County District Court and obtained by Tuscaloosa Patch.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department discovered two “severely malnourished, emaciated, and neglected” dogs on the back porch of a home Buggs was renting. A neighbor informed police that the dogs had been on the porch for at least 10 days.

His agent denied the claims of animal cruelty, claiming that the dogs were not his and that he was unaware they were still at the rental property.

According to court records, one of the dogs -- a Rottweiler -- was left locked in a metal cage, which was left in direct sunlight. He was underweight and treated for Parvo, a highly contagious, potentially fatal virus in dogs.

The pit bull was later euthanized by the Tuscaloosa County Metro Animal Shelter, citing increased "aggressiveness" and failed heartworm treatment. Both dogs were “severely malnourished, emaciated, neglected."

"Under no circumstance does Mr. Buggs condone the mistreatment of any animal,'' Buggs' agent Trey Robinson said in a statement, per Yahoo. "The dogs at issue did not belong to him, and he was unaware they remained at the property in question."

Buggs was also arrested twice for misdemeanors at the Kings Hookah Lounge.

According to police records obtained by Alabama News, officers responded to the lounge early on April 14 following complaints that its parking had overflowed into neighboring businesses. Authorities reportedly counted 283 people in the club, which is well over its maximum capacity of 83.

The former Detroit Lions player was given a citation for overcrowding in violation of fire codes, which caused him to become irate and say, “These boys better not touch me,” and “I’m not going in handcuffs.” The NFL star started to walk away when the police chief placed his hand on Buggs' shoulder to walk him back into the building.

“Buggs turned around and shoved Chief Blankley into several officers,’’ leading to a scuffle, per the docs. He was charged with resisting arrest and two outstanding charges on violations from 2023 involving overcrowding at the lounge and a violation of the ordinance “alleys kept free of rubbish/trash.”

Isaiah Buggs Comments On Past Arrests

Buggs' agent, Trey Robinson, claims the arrests are part of an agenda to destroy the NFL star's reputation.

"Furthermore, we believe the City of Tuscaloosa's decision to file the charges today is part of a concerted effort by the City of Tuscaloosa and its Police Department to besmirch Mr. Buggs' name and reputation as part of an on-going subversive campaign to force the close of his local business Kings Hookah Lounge," the statement reads.

"These efforts are not new as Mr. Buggs was arrested at his business on misdemeanor charges on two separate occasions in the past two months, but each time no public record was made of these arrests."

"Rather, the City used the threat of pursuing and publicizing both the allegations filed today and these arrests as leverage against Mr. Buggs by offering to drop and not pursue them in exchange for his voluntary surrender of his business license. Mr. Buggs declined the City's offer as he has serious concerns about the City's and Police Department's motivation for deciding to target his business, which he plans to bring to light as part of his defense of the allegations and charges filed against him and his reputation and business."

Isaiah Buggs has yet to comment on his most recent arrest.
