There was a stampede in Times Square last night after people heard what they thought was gunfire. The sound was apparently from a motorcycle backfiring.
Police confirmed there was no active shooter.
The scene unfolded around 10 p.m. ET Tuesday. Video from a high rise show people running in all directions.
“There is no #ActiveShooter in #TimesSquare. Motorcycles backfiring while passing through sounded like gun shots,” tweeted NYPD Midtown North.
