Gypsy Rose Blanchard, 32, married Ryan Anderson, 38, in July 2022 while she was serving her ten-year sentence for her involvement in her mother's murder.
The two met after Ryan watched the 2017 documentary "Mommy Dead & Dearest" and contacted Gypsy via prison mail. Just three months after being released on parole, Gypsy announced her separation from Ryan and filed for divorce and a restraining order.
As the breakup seemed sudden, many are convinced Gypsy Rose Blanchard used Ryan Anderson to help get her out of prison, and now, she is addressing those claims.
Gypsy Rose Marries Ryan In A Prison Wedding Ceremony
While serving her prison sentence, Gypsy tied the knot with Ryan in July 2022.
“Ryan’s from Louisiana… and I’m originally from Louisiana, and I saw that I’m kinda like, ‘Oh, hey, someone from my home state!’ So I wrote him a letter back, and we became friends,” she said, per In Touch, adding that she was “all alone” in prison. “And, of course, more than friends, and then now we’re married.”
Gypsy & Ryan End Their Marriage
After being released, Gypsy said she wanted to have a "re-do" wedding with Ryan, but that never came to be. On March 28, 2024, she announced the two had gone their separate ways.
“People have been asking what is going on in my life,” she wrote in a social media post. “Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation, and I moved in with my parent's home down the bayou. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now, I need time to let myself find… who I am.”
Because her marriage to Ryan was short-lived after being released, many accused Gypsy of using the special education teacher, but she is shutting those accusations down.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Drops Bombshell: 'Ryan Never Took Care Of Me In Prison'
Gypsy Rose Blanchard went live on TikTok, where many followers hopped into the comments section to ask her questions. Several of those were inquiring about her marriage to Ryan.
"Why did I get married? Well, honestly, I thought I was ready," she told her viewers as she straightened her hair. "I thought that it would be a good step for me to do something for myself for a change. I thought Ryan and I would work out."
Gypsy then addressed the claims that she used Ryan to get out of prison, but she is denying those rumors. "I don't think I used Ryan because Ryan never took care of me in prison," she admitted. "My parents would send me $200 a month to take care of me, so I don't know why people would think that I used Ryan."
"We had a pretty good relationship. I think that we started off as friends; I leaned on him for support just as much as he leaned on me for emotional support," she continued. "We had a really good bond at one time, but people change."
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Moves On
Gypsy Rose Blanchard got engaged to Ken Urker before meeting Ryan Anderson. They planned on getting married, but Ken ultimately called it off.
“Even though he was in the free world, and I was in prison, this was my first actual relationship that was long-term,” she said in the first episode of "Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up." “Right before we were going to get married, he ended the relationship. It devastated me. I think he pretty much gave me every breakup line in the book.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Kindles Her Love With Ken Urker
Shortly after announcing her separation from Ryan, Gypsy confirmed she was back together with her ex-fiancé Ken Urker, whom she had "kept a friendship [with] this whole time."
"It wasn't until I filed for divorce that I kind of really realized that that spark, that connection [with Ken] is even better than I expected," she told E! News. "And we've grown a lot. I've matured. He's grown. And so I think right now is the time in our lives that it's the right time, right place, right everything."
Gypsy also spoke to TMZ, confirming "After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable, and life is too short to not take a chance. We have a history that made for the perfect foundation for a new beginning."
