Bam Margera is taking the very powerful ADHD medication, Adderall, and his family believes the drug may be behind his recent manic behavior.

We spoke to Bam's family following his public meltdown and subsequent meeting/interview with Dr. Phil and they believe part of his problem is the constant use of amphetamine salts, which are prescribed.

"He doesn't need any Amphetamines at all," his mother April told The Blast.

Bam's family does not believe he truly needs Adderall, however we're told he insists to his doctor that he needs to take it while trying to stay sober.

April is worried about Bam's use of the drug, and tells us that, "every time he goes to rehab and is doing good, he insists on taking that medication."

We're told a huge worry by the family is that he may be abusing the drug by taking more than the prescribed amount.

The Margera family believes that every time Bam takes Adderall he ends up in a very bad place, which includes his public behavior during the last few days.

They are hoping his Bam's doctor gets the message that they want him to stop prescribing the former "Jackass" star the amphetamine.

There other substances that Bam has struggled with in the past, including alcohol, but we're told Adderall is the main culprit.

Bam addressed his behavior and reaction to his medication in several videos he posted over the weekend, which have now been deleted.

Many fans accused the star of doing illegal drugs, but Bam made it clear that he was not doing anything illegal.

"How can I get through the airport with it," Bam aggressively asked.

He did admit, "I've been to 28 doctors, been to 4 rehabs ... when I'm out I have Adderall and some weird s--t."

Adderall, while useful, can also cause many health issues when abused.

Some people have reported issues with sleeping while on the drug, while others have described incidents of delusion and extreme manic episodes.

According to a description of the medication, Adderall is "used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - ADHD."

It works by "changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain ... and can help increase your ability to pay attention, stay focused on an activity, and control behavior problems."

The dark side of pharmaceutical medications, including Adderall, has been highly scrutinized over the years, especially in films like Netflix's 2018 documentary, "Take Your Pills."

We're told Bam's family hopes that during this latest stint in treatment, the issue of Adderall can be addressed and hopefully end Bam's relationship with the medication.

As The Blast first reported, Bam agreed to check in to a rehabilitation facility to deal after meeting with Dr. Phil. We're told his family, especially his mother and wife, played a huge part in persuading him to seek treatment.

We're told Margera and Phil spoke for three hours, and at the end, "Bam agreed to go away for help."

We're told the program is a live-in facility that will work with him for an extended period of time, which could be anywhere from 60 - 90 days.
