Gypsy Rose Blanchard, 32, was released on parole in December 2023 after serving 85% of her 10-year sentence.

The ex-convict pled guilty to the second-degree murder of her mom, Clauddine 'Dee Dee' Blanchard, who controlled Gypsy for several years.

Due to the abuse she endured, investigators believe the 32-year-old is a victim of Munchausen by proxy, a mental health disorder and type of abuse in which a caregiver deliberately induces or fabricates an illness or injury in someone under their care. As a way out, Gypsy plotted the murder of her mother alongside her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn and spent the past eight and a half years behind bars.

While serving her sentence, Gypsy Rose Blanchard explored her sexuality, admitting she has kissed more girls than she has guys.

Due to the abuse she endured by her mom, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was isolated from other people her age and was not allowed to have any romantic connections. Desperate to have outside friendships, Gypsy secretly created a Facebook account where she met several other people her age, including Nicholas Godejohn.

Because she didn't have much physical interaction with anyone aside from her mom or doctors, she was never able to explore her sexuality until she went to prison.

When talking about her marriage with Ryan Anderson, Gypsy Rose Blanchard admitted to hooking up with several girls behind bars as a way to explore her sexuality.

"A big part of womanhood is learning to become comfortable with their sexuality, and for years I wasn't," Gypsy admitted in the second episode of her Lifetime docuseries, "Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up." "For a long time, I questioned my own sexuality because [when] I was a teenager or a pre-teen, I felt like I was attracted to girls, and I got to experiment with that in prison."

"I think I've kissed more girls than I have guys," she said with a chuckle.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ryan Anderson allegedly had a big, blow-out fight that led to their separation. According to Ryan, who spoke to Extra, he "hasn't seen her since" that night, though he said they do still communicate.

"One minute we were married, and the next we weren't," he told the outlet. "It was kind of like, 'I'm going to my parents for the weekend,' and then all of a sudden it was, 'I'm not coming back.'"

A few weeks after Gypsy announced her separation from Ryan, she filed for divorce, seeking interim and final spousal support "as he is at fault in the dissolution of the marriage" and requested that Ryan not be issued any support, per People Magazine.

She has also been granted a restraining order.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has since rekindled her romance with Ken Urker, whom she was engaged to before meeting Ryan.

While many speculate that Gypsy Rose Blanchard divorced Ryan Anderson intending to get back together with her ex-fiancé Ken Urker, she insists that this speculation is false.

“It was, I think, an insecurity that was there for a very long time,” she told US Weekly in May of her relationship with Ryan. “I called Ken two weeks before I got married. Ken has consistently been brought up in a way that I can never let go of my feelings, but I put them on the back burner to do what was best for my marriage."

"And so, having that be a point of contention has been a thread throughout, but I didn’t leave Ryan for Ken," she claimed. "That was just sort of a realization [of], ‘Hey, we still love each other after the fact.’”

Weeks after she announced her separation from Ryan Anderson, Gypsy Rose Blanchard spoke to People Magazine, expressing how the divorce has affected her.

"I think that there is a sense of freedom following your heart, following what you feel like is right for you, and in my marriage, I felt like part of me was lost," she told the outlet. "And so I feel like I've found that missing piece of myself that I always felt was lost."

"Now, reclaiming that back, I definitely feel a sense of belonging in that space," she added.

"Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up" airs on Lifetime on Mondays.
