The possibility of a Goonies reunion movie still lingers after Corey Feldman brought up the subject recently.
Actor Corey Feldman, who starred in the original Goonies, along with Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, Jonathan Ke Quan, Josh Brolin and others, recently revealed he worked on a film treatment for a sequel with Astin.
Feldman was at Discovery’s Serengeti screening at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on July 23 when he mentioned the pitch.
“Sean Astin and I actually wrote a pitch, a treatment of about 10 pages that we took into [director] Richard Donner and a representative of [screenwriter] Chris Columbus and Steven [Spielberg].”
“We pitched it and Donner loved it, but he said it was too expensive an idea.”
Feldman says he would prefer for the original cast to return for the sequel:
“I’m a fan of the actual sequel, not of finding a new cast and doing it over.”
Astin, however, thinks the time has passed for a Goonies reunion with the original stars, speaking in April with Collider:
“I think we’ve probably passed the threshold for which all of us original cast members are right for doing a sequel.”
Although, he did tweet in April: “Huh? What? #Goonies 2. We Never Say Die!”
