Donald Trump is reflecting on the impact his New York hush money trial has had on his family, especially his wife, Melania Trump, and youngest son, Barron Trump.
During a sit-down interview with Dr. Phil, Trump admitted that it hasn't been "easy" for Melania but that he thinks she is "good."
He also shared his beliefs about Barron not complaining because he "doesn't want to hurt me," going on to say that his family "tolerates" his legal woes and 2024 campaign because of their love for America.
Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and will be sentenced on July 11.
Donald Trump Says His Wife Melania Is 'I Think Good'
In a recent conversation with TV host Dr. Phil, whose real name is Phil McGraw, the former president discussed his family's emotional state following his months-long hush money trial and his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump became the first former US president to be convicted of felony crimes after he was found guilty of 34 count charges for falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to former adult film star Stormy Daniels.
His family, especially his daughter Ivanka, wife Melania, and son Barron, distanced themselves from the case and never appeared in court to show him support, which he now admits must have been tough on them.
During the interview, McGraw asked how the former first lady was "holding up through all this."
"I think good," he replied, per The Independent. "But I don't think it's an easy thing for her, and I think if it wasn't good, she wouldn't want to tell me about it, to be honest."
He went on, "Because, you know, she sees that I'm fighting like hell, I'm trying to become president and make America great again."
"I have a wonderful wife - it's not easy for her to read about this stuff, that's fake - fake stuff," he added.
Donald Trump Reveals Why Son Barron Is Not Opening Up About The Trial
According to the news outlet, the presumptive GOP nominee also voiced concerns that his son, Barron, may not be opening up about the impact his legal woes and media scrutiny have had on him.
Not much is known about the high school graduate, who recently turned 18, as Melania has made it a duty to keep him locked in a protective "bubble" at their Mar-a-Lago estate, away from media attention.
Although he has rarely been seen speaking in public, Barron reportedly favors his father's political efforts and was even nominated among Florida's at-large representatives to the Republican Party National Convention, held in Milwaukee in July.
Speaking to McGraw, Trump said, "I think he doesn't say because he doesn't want to hurt me and thinks it's a possibly hurtful conversation, but it has to affect my family."
Donald Trump's Family 'Tolerates' His Battles For The Love Of America
In recent months, Melania's continuous absence from the campaign trail has sparked speculation that she does not support Trump's 2024 hopes.
In addition, Ivanka, who served as a senior advisor during his first administration, has since retired from politics to focus on her family and build a private life in Miami.
However, the billionaire politician has now stated that his family "tolerates" his media scrutiny and legal woes out of patriotism and their faith in him, per Independent.
"I think to a certain extent, my family wants me to do it. Our country's in trouble. We could be in a world war very soon," Trump told McGraw, adding, "My family loves this country, and I think they feel I do a good job."
Donald Trump Slams Judge In First Post-Conviction Rally
In his first rally after his conviction at a Turning Point Action event in sweltering Phoenix, Trump slammed the judge who presided over the case, Judge Juan Merchan.
"Those appellate courts have to step up and straighten things out, or we're not going to have a country any longer," he said, per The Guardian.
Trump then ripped President Joe Biden's recent executive order limiting asylum seekers, which he called "bulls--t" and said he would rescind if elected for a second term.
He also criticized Biden's immigration approach, urging him to reinstate Trump-era border policies to solve the issue. "Arizona is being turned into a dumping ground for the dungeons of the third world," Trump claimed.
He Called The Hush Money Trial A 'Disgrace'
The former president's sentencing for his hush money guilty verdict is scheduled to take place on July 11.
Trump has previously slammed the trial as a "disgrace," adding that it is a "witch hunt" that's politically motivated.
"Our whole country is being rigged right now," He told the press outside the courtroom. "This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound, to hurt an opponent. A political opponent. And I think it's just a disgrace, and we'll keep fighting, we'll fight till the end, and we'll win because our country has gone to hell. We don't have the same country anymore, we have a divided mess ."
He continued, "We are a nation in decline, serious decline of people pouring into our country right now. From prisons and from mental institutions. Terrorists, and they're taking over our country. We have a country that's in big trouble, but this was a rigged decision right from day one, with a conflicted judge who should have never been allowed to try this case. Never!"
Trump concluded his statement: "We will fight for our constitution. This is far from over. Thank you very much."
