On Thursday, May 30, 2024, history was made as the jury in Donald Trump's hush-money trial came back with a guilty verdict on all 34 counts.
As The Blast previously reported, the former President of the United States was on trial after being accused of falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
One day after the verdict was read, Donald Trump spoke at a press conference, where he claimed that migrants live in “luxury hotels in cities” run by Democrats.
Jury Finds Donald Trump Guilty On All 34 Counts
Donald Trump, former President and now a convicted felon, addressed his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records shortly after the verdict was read on Thursday, claiming the "whole country is being rigged right now."
"This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound, to hurt an opponent," he said outside of the courthouse. "A political opponent, and I think it's just a disgrace, and we'll keep fighting, we'll fight till the end, and we'll win because our country has gone to hell. We don't have the same country anymore, we have a divided mess."
"We are a nation in decline, serious decline of people pouring into our country right now. From prisons and from mental institutions. Terrorists and they're taking over our country. We have a country that's in big trouble, but this was a rigged decision right from day one. With a conflicted judge who should have never been allowed to try this case never. And we will fight for our constitution. This is more from over. Thank you very much," Trump concluded.
Donald Trump: 'Migrants' Are Taking Over ‘Luxury Hotels'
During his post-verdict press conference on Friday, not only did Trump slam the judge and the jury, but he also claimed that migrants live in “luxury hotels in cities” run by Democrats
“This is what's happening to our country. And it's not sustainable [for] anyone. Little things like our kids can't have a little league game anymore because you have tents and you have migrants living on the fields. That's the least of it,” Trump claimed.
“People are taking over our luxury hotels – migrants. And yet our veterans, our great veterans are living on the streets like dogs,” he added. “But migrants are living in luxury hotels and cities all over our country run by Democrats.”
Trump Claims 'It's Not Hush Money'
Trump continued to plead his innocence, specifically about the nondisclosure agreement that Michael Cohen paid Stormy Daniels, claiming the payments were legal because they were for standard NDAs.
"It’s a big deal, the nondisclosure agreement, totally honorable, totally good, totally accepted," Trump said at the press conference held on Friday. "Every company has nondisclosure agreements."
"It's a disgrace," he claimed. "It's not hush money. It's a nondisclosure agreement. Totally legal. Totally common."
Donald Trump To Appeal The Verdict
This shouldn't come as a surprise, but Trump said he will be appealing the verdict made by the jury, claiming the judge was a "tyrant" and the trial was a "hoax."
"The people of our country know it's a hoax. ... They get it, you know, they're really smart," he said on Friday. "We're going to be appealing this scam. We're going to be appealing it on many different things."
Trump then claimed that the judge "wouldn't allow us to have witnesses, you wouldn't allow us to talk, you wouldn't allow us to do anything."
"The judge was a tyrant," the former President said.
'This Is A Rigged Trial'
Also in his press conference on Friday, Trump claimed that he "paid a lawyer, totally legal."
"It's not Sheetrock construction or any other thing. It's a legal expense.," he said. "Think of that. This is what the falsification of business records were. And I said, 'What else are you going to call it?'"
The former President then proceeded to call it all a "scam." "It shouldn't have been in that venue. We shouldn't have had that judge," he said. "As far as the trial itself, it was very unfair. We weren't allowed to use our election expert under any circumstances."
"You saw what happened to some of the witnesses that were on our side," Trump added. "They were literally crucified by this man who looks like an angel, but he’s really a devil. He looks so nice and soft. People always say he seems like such a nice man. No, unless you saw him in action. And you saw that with a certain witness that went through hell."
Trump's sentencing has been scheduled for July 11, 2024.
