The actress is the daughter of the late media mogul Aaron Spelling, and she received only an $800,000 inheritance from her father's $600m fortune when he passed away at 83 in 2006.

Spelling's ex-husband at the time, Charlie Shanian, revealed to the DailyMail that she was deeply upset by the inheritance news, crying not over the money but over the implications of the will's structure.

"She was crying and feeling upset, not about the money, but about what it meant," Shanian said, adding that there was "real pain" in Spelling's reaction.

Shanian further noted that Aaron's hope "was that it would bring Tori closer to her mom because it would require a connection between them."

Spelling and McDermott's financial struggles come amid their ongoing divorce battle. The former couple were married for 18 years but had been sleeping apart for three years before their legal separation, which led McDermott to check into rehab for substance abuse after a heated argument last June.

As reported by The Blast, the 51-year-old is seeking primary physical custody of their five underage children, while McDermott is seeking joint custody.

In October, McDermott began a relationship with Lily Calo, a 32-year-old senior account executive at Conscious Community Global. Spelling, who is currently dating Ryan Cramer, CEO of Neuron Syndicate Inc. Advertising, showed her support by liking the couple's Instagram post.

However, when one user criticized Spelling for liking the post and described her action as "mind-boggling," McDermott defended her by describing his estranged wife as a "highly evolved and compassionate loving person."

He highlighted Spelling's kindness and maturity, stating: "It's because she is a highly evolved and compassionate loving person, which is a lot more then I can say for the trolls commenting on this post. Tori has a boyfriend. People get divorced and are better apart them [sic] together. That's life."

On her "misSPELLING" podcast, Spelling reflected on her failed marriage and recalled the explosive argument with McDermott that led to their split. She shared that the fight erupted after a day on set in June 2023, when McDermott made a comment "he knew would really be hurtful to hear."

Although the 50-year-old didn't reveal McDermott's exact words, she described the impact as so profound that she angrily threw a well-prepared baked potato onto the kitchen floor.

"This guttural scream came out of me," Spelling recalled. "It wasn't even like a sexy scream, like running in a horror film. It was beast-like. It wasn't pretty at all."

She added: "And I was like, 'F-ck you!' And I took my most prized possession at that moment, my baked potato. It was loaded to perfection, and I smashed it on the ground."
