Nick Carter is at the center of a storm as a docuseries reveals severe allegations of sexual assault by three women.
Once a symbol of teen heartthrob innocence as a Backstreet Boys member, Nick's image is now under intense scrutiny due to these shocking revelations.
Nick Carter's Alleged Dark Chapter Explored In New Docuseries
A new docuseries from Investigation Discovery, "Fallen Idols," shines a stark light on the troubling allegations against the famed Backstreet Boys member and his brother, late pop singer Aaron Carter.
The series introduces three women who claim they were sexually assaulted by Nick, painting a picture that starkly contrasts with his public persona.
The series begins with Shannon "Shay" Ruth, the first woman to file a sexual assault lawsuit against Nick in December 2022.
Following Ruth, the docuseries features Melissa Schuman, best known as a member of the girl group Dream, and Ashley Repp, a former friend of Nick's sister Angel.
A title card in the documentary states that Nick has "denied the allegations and questions his accusers' credibility." He also declined to be interviewed for the series, leaving a significant gap in the narrative from his perspective, as per Variety.
'Fallen Idols' Traces The Carter Clan's Legacy Of Tragedy
"Fallen Idols" goes beyond the individual allegations to delve into the Carter family's tumultuous history.
The Carter family, consisting of parents Robert and Jane, and children Nick, Leslie, Angel, Bobbie Jean, and Aaron, have faced a series of tragedies over the years.
The docuseries recounts the family's painful history, starting with Leslie, who died at age 25 from a drug overdose in 2012.
This was followed by Aaron's tragic death in 2022 at age 34, attributed to drowning under the influence of alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax, and inhaling difluoroethane.
Most recently, Bobbie Jean passed away in 2023 from a drug overdose at age 41.
Other Revelations From The Docuseries
The series airs on May 27 and 28 on ID and Max. During this time, viewers are plunged into a world of shocking revelations about Nick and his family. Some of the biggest bombshells include Nick's text message to Schuman after the alleged sexual assault.
The singer's harrowing account of her alleged rape is a central focus of the series. Schuman vividly recounted the traumatic experience, detailing Nick's forcible advances despite her protests.
Perhaps most chilling is the text message she claimed to have received from Nick the day after the assault, which read, "Why did you make me do that?"
Another thing that was featured is how Former Pussycat Dolls member Kaya Jones, who dated Nick in the 2000s, reached out to Schuman after she spoke out about her experience.
The docuseries also showed how the relationship between Nick and his late brother Aaron became strained. Despite their familial ties, the late star stood in solidarity with the women who accused his brother of assault.
His belief in their stories sparked a public feud between the two brothers. Aaron's stance might have also led him to suspect his own family of leading cyber attacks against him when he struggled with online harassment.
Nick Carter Filed A Defamation Lawsuit Against Sexual Assault Accusers
The recent docuseries detailing allegations of sexual assault against Nick hit the screens just months after the singer filed a defamation lawsuit against his accusers.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Carter sued for defamation, seeking $2,350,000 in damages for emotional distress, punitive damages, and attorney's fees.
Carter's lawsuit characterizes the actions of his accusers — Shannon "Shay" Ruth, Melissa Schuman Henschel, Jerome Schuman, A.R., and the holder of the Doe @ElaineMoo Twitter account, — as "the culmination of an approximate five-year conspiracy orchestrated by Co-Conspirators to harass, defame, and extort Carter. The campaign was launched and bolstered by the #MeToo movement."
How It All Started
The drama reportedly began in November 2017 when Schuman posted a blog entry accusing Carter of sexually assaulting her in 2003. The legal filing accused them of previously attempting to extort money from him through civil attorneys.
Nick's refusal to negotiate with the alleged victims allegedly led to an escalation in what he describes as their "harassment."
The lawsuit further accused Schuman, Ruth, A.R., and Jerome of amplifying "their defamatory campaign into accusing Carter and others of participating in "cover-ups" and "victim bullying."
The lawsuit also referenced the accusers' alleged exploitation of Nick's late brother, Aaron. The document noted:
"In the months leading up to his recent death, Aaron not only apologized to Carter for his involvement in the [accusers] smear campaign but publicly stated that [accusers] were liars."
