Hollywood heartthrob Glen Powell has had it with the glitz and glamor of Tinseltown.
His decision to step back and move back to his hometown, Austin, Texas, comes after more than a decade of hustle and bustle in the entertainment industry.
Glen Powell Is Returning To Texas For Family And Authenticity
The 35-year-old has decided to return to his native Texas to reconnect with his roots, spend quality time with his family, and finally complete his college education.
While he'll maintain a place in New York's Tribeca, he is handing over the keys to his Hollywood Hills home. In a recent interview, Powell opened up about his decision to leave Los Angeles.
The "Top Gun" star expressed gratitude for reaching a stage in his career where he can comfortably step back from the industry's relentless pace. Powell stated:
"Getting to this point in Hollywood is that I can now leave Hollywood. It's like I've earned the ability to go back to my family."
During his conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the TV personality attributed his inspiration to make the move to fellow actor Matthew McConaughey. Recalling his conversation with the Texas native, Powell shared,
"He's like, 'Hollywood is the Matrix, man. You plug in and it's all fake world.' He's like, 'Then I go to Austin, and I unplug. It's all real. Those are my friends, that's my family, my actions matter there.'"
This philosophy resonated deeply with Powell, who acknowledged the need to distinguish between his professional and personal worlds.
"If you're here, you live in the Matrix all the time, there's no separation of those worlds. And for me, especially as my parents get older and my niece and nephew are growing up, I want a separation of those worlds," he explained.
Sydney Sweeney Spotted Without Engagement Ring Amid Affair Rumors
Powell's recent decision to return to his hometown in Texas comes at a pivotal time, especially considering the swirl of rumors that surrounded the star last year.
At the time, The Blast reported that Powell had broken up with his longtime girlfriend, Gigi Paris, while Sweeney was seen without her engagement ring from fiancé Jonathan Davino.
According to pictures obtained by Daily Mail, the "Euphoria" actress was seen briefly visiting home in a limo before heading to the airport, leaving Davino at the house.
Adding to the intrigue, Davino was spotted a few days earlier leaving the house with several items, including Sweeney's dog, Tank, and a dog bed.
Despite the mounting evidence, a source insisted that "all is well" between the couple and that Sweeney and Powell "are not dating."
The Stars' On-screen Romance Sparked Off-Screen Speculation
While sources noted that Sweeney and her fiancé were in a good place, rumors continued to swirl about the actress and Powell.
The speculation were compounded by a crew member who anonymously disclosed, "To be honest, we thought they were already a couple. I knew him from Top Gun. But I just assumed they were a couple in real life."
They further elaborated by highlighting observations from the production crew and extras, stating:
"That's what it looked like to most of us. And to some of the extras as well. There was talk about it during (production) breaks that they seemed close from day one."
Powell And Sweeney Might Be Hollywood's Next Dynamic Duo?
While the rumors of an affair between Powell and Sweeney may be just that, it's worth noting that their chemistry played a significant role in the success of their hit romantic comedy "Anyone But You."
Following their triumph, Powell himself articulated his belief that he and Sweeney had struck gold with their on-screen chemistry, drawing comparisons to some of Tinseltown's most legendary pairs. The actor even highlighted their commitment to creating heartfelt stories:
"What I'm really proud of on 'Anyone But You' is Sydney and I took a gamble that people would pay their $15, leave the house, get the sitter, whatever it means, to show up to the theater for a movie that's just about love."
Powell's enthusiasm for collaborating with Sweeney did not stop at one project as he declared, "Sydney and I want to get back in the trenches together."
Glen Powell Has The Perfect Comparism For His On-Screen Relationship
Drawing parallels to Hollywood's iconic duos, Powell likened their partnership to the likes of Julia Roberts and George Clooney, as well as Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, who have enjoyed successful collaborations over the years.
Roberts and Clooney share a renowned friendship, having co-starred in six movies together. Similarly, McConaughey and Hudson have appeared in two rom-coms together.
