Hollywood veteran Nicolas Cage found himself between a rock and a hard place with his former daughter-in-law's attempts to involve him in her divorce.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the "Ghost Rider" star is being dragged into his son Weston Cage Coppola's separation from Hila Cage Coppola. However, Nicolas refuses to comply with the latter's demands as a non-party in their split.

According to the documents, Hila wants her former father-in-law to provide financial details, so she will serve him with a subpoena demanding his cooperation.

In a letter to Nicolas's attorney, Brian G. Wolf, her legal team claimed they wanted information about transfers between the actor's Trust and Weston.

"The Petitioner, Ms. Cage-Coppola, has personal knowledge of your client's father's funding of this litigation from the outset to the extent of hundreds of thousands of dollars," the letter alleged.

"Moreover, your client's father clearly pays the mass majority of your client's bills and living expenses (if not ALL of them)," Hila's team claimed, stressing that Nicolas' financial records are crucial to the case. In their words:

Wolf, on behalf of Nicolas, objected to the deposition subpoena served by Hila. He stressed that his client isn't a party in the divorce drama between his son and estranged wife and should not be involved.

"Responding Party objects to the Subpoena to the extent it seeks to impose duties and obligations that the California Code of Civil Procedure requires only of parties to the action," Wolf argued, adding:

"Responding Party objects to the Subpoena on the grounds that it is grossly overbroad and seeks the wholesale production of Responding Party's bank records that are neither relevant to the subject matter of the action nor reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence."

Nicolas's attorney stressed that the subpoena sought "any and all" bank records maintained by City National Bank in his client's name without specification as to time or scope. Therefore, the order was "unduly burdensome, harassing, oppressive, vague, and irrelevant."

Wolf explained that he sent a detailed response to Hila's letter, highlighting arguments supporting Nicolas's objections to the disposition subpoena. However, her team didn't reply but sought an informal discovery conference with the Court.

Nicolas's attorney claimed he wasn't aware of the meeting until after business hours on May 8, 2024. Hila's counsel allegedly sent an email revealing they had requested an informal discovery conference with the Court and obtained approval for May 23.

Because they allegedly did so without prior notice, Wolf implored the Court to reschedule the May 23 meeting until it could hear and rule on Weston's motion to squash his father's disposition subpoena.

Nicolas's attorney noted that Weston filed the motion to quash the subpoena on April 11, 2024, long before Hila requested an informal discovery conference. If granted, the May 23 hearing will be canceled until the motion for June 25, 2024, has been heard.

Over a week before subpoena drama, The Blast reported Weston Cage was suspected of attacking his mother, Christina Fulton. The mother and son allegedly got into a verbal altercation that escalated into physical violence.

The fight reportedly went down on April 28 in Los Angeles, with an ambulance being called to the scene. However, Fulton declined hospitalization while her son was nowhere to be seen when cops arrived, but he was named as a suspect.

The alleged incident left investigators in a tight spot as they deliberated whether or not to press felony battery charges against Weston. Additionally, Fulton denied having an altercation with her son and begged for privacy.

Despite her claims, Weston's mother was spotted at a parking meter with a black eye and fading bruises on her face.

The alleged altercation with his mother isn't the first time Weston has made headlines for violence. He was placed on psychiatric hold following a brutal incident in 2011, marking another one of his many mental health struggles.

Fulton blamed her son's issues on his father, accusing the movie star of breaking Weston. "Nicolas Cage has damaged and interfered and done something absolutely horrific, and I need to just go get my son," she said, adding:

"I am the one that raised Weston. I am the one that took care of Weston. His dad was very busy out working as an actor."

Fulton and Weston also joined hands against his estranged wife in 2023, suing Hila for alleging embezzling $100,000.

They also accused her of running a smear campaign against them and filing a "fraudulent restraining order" that prevented Fulton and Nicolas from seeing their granddaughters — twin girls Venice and Cypress.
