Rep. Katie Hill's Husband Files for Divorce

The husband of Rep. Katie Hill has filed for divorce, less than a year after she won her seat in Congress.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kenny Heslep filed to end their marriage today in Los Angeles County Court. The couple was married in 2010 and they did not have any children.

Court records indict Heslep is seeking spousal support.

The Blast reached out to both Hill and Heslep for comment but they have not yet responded.

Hill is the Congresswoman from California’s 25th Congressional District, serving the Antelope, Simi, and Santa Clarita Valleys.

When she was elected, Hill became California's first openly bisexual woman to win a seat in Congress.

Hill is the former Executive Director of People Assisting the Homeless, a statewide non-profit organization working to end homelessness throughout California.

According to her official website, she was "elected by her colleagues to be the Freshman Co-Representative to Leadership in the 116th Congress and was the first Member-elect to present the Democratic Weekly Address."

She defeated two-term incumbent Republican Steve Knight in the 2018 mid-term elections. Her campaign was the subject of a series of episodes on HBO's "Vice News Tonight," which deemed her campaign the "most millennial campaign ever" for Congress.

Hill was endorsed for Congress by former president Barack Obama.

In a 2017 interview with PopSugar, Hill discussed how she and Heslep got pregnant when they were still dating and struggled with whether or not to keep the baby.

She ended up having a miscarriage.

Hill described her emotions at the time by saying, "I started sobbing with simultaneous tears of relief and sadness and guilt at feeling relief, and confusion at feeling sad, and just so much conflicting emotion and just the reality of being faced with that situation."
