'Star Wars' Mark Hamill Says Joe Biden Is 'The Exact President We Need' After Oval Office Visit

"Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden on social media a week after his unexpected hour-long tour of the Oval Office.

Reflecting on his meeting with Biden, Hamill highlighted the president's down-to-earth demeanor and the unique significance of visiting the Oval Office. Fans also hailed the historic moment of a "Star Wars" actor in the Oval Office.

Following his recent visit to the Oval Office, "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamil took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank President Joe Biden for his hospitality.

Recalling his experience with the POTUS, he wrote: "We were expecting a 5-minute photo-op if we were lucky. Instead, @POTUS took almost a FULL HOUR to give us a detailed, comprehensive tour of the Oval Office & surrounding areas."

Hamill praised Biden's generosity, noting that "he was so generous with his time, telling stories about his childhood, his children, his early days in politics & the current issues he feels most passionate about to improve the lives of all Americans."

He added: "He was everything you wanted him to be & MORE: personable, relatable & funny with the dignity, kindness & empathy that makes him the exact President we need at this point in time. Thank you @JoeBiden- it was an incredible day we'll never forget! #BidenHarris4MoreYears.”

In the comments, fans commended Hamill, noting the historic moment of a "Star Wars" actor in the Oval Office.

"This is history! First Star Wars actor ever to sit in the Oval Office," one admirer commented.

"Very cool Mark, what an opportunity! No doubt he was impressed to meet you and yours. You are a cinematic icon of the highest level," another praised.

A third person acknowledged the significance of meeting any sitting president, noting: "I may not be Biden's biggest fan, but damn that's still cool. Getting to visit with any sitting president would be a cool experience, regardless of political affiliations. Especially for an hour!"

A fourth X user recounted a meeting with Biden, writing: "I had the good fortune to be his sommelier years ago for a party when he was a Senator. He listened to me talk about the wine and made a point to engage me in conversation. He's just so present, engaging, and curious about other people. I love that you got this visit."

After his appearance in the Oval Office, Hamill, dressed in a dark suit, blue tie, and sunglasses, led a media briefing, surprising reporters with his unexpected role.

At the beginning of the briefing, he jokingly quipped: "How many of you had 'Mark Hamill will lead the press briefing' on your bingo card – hands?"

He continued: "Yeah, me neither. I just got to meet the president and he gave me these aviator glasses," adding that he loves the "merch."

The 72-year-old stated that he was "honored" to meet Biden and praised him for being the "most legislatively successful president in my lifetime."

He added: "It just shows you that just one person can be so influential and so positive in our lives."

Hamill also shared insights from his Oval Office meeting and recounted a light-hearted exchange where Biden offered to be called "Joe."

"I called him 'Mr. President.' He said, 'You can call me Joe," Hamill Claimed. "I said, 'Can I call you Joe-B-Wan Kenobi?" referencing the iconic Star Wars character.

Reflecting on his previous visits to White House events during different administrations, "The Return Of Jedi" star noted: "It was really amazing to me because I was invited to the Carter White House, and I came. And then I came to the Obama White House, but I never was invited into the Oval Office, and it was a large gathering."

"So this one was really extra special," he added, per The Guardian.

After Hamill's exit, reporters present questioned the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, on why the actor was allowed to be in the Oval Office despite having never held an elected office.

A CBS reporter, Weijia Jiang, asked directly, "What was Mark Hamill doing here today?"

Responding, Jean-Pierre stated, "Did you not like having him here? … Mark Hamill was in town. They met. I think it was important as someone – you all know Mark Hamill. He is someone who is very much invested in our country, very much invested in the direction of this country."

The reporter eventually promised to watch the "Star Wars" films after sharing that he was unfamiliar with the movies, to the shock of the Press Secretary and others in the room.
