The separation between Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry appears to be moving in a favorable direction after five years.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Perry recently responded to "The Conners" actress's divorce filing. The singer-songwriter didn't dispute her ex's demands and agreed to the dissolution of their marital vows.
Linda Perry Agrees To The Termination Of Her Spousal Support Rights
In her legal filing, Perry agreed that her marriage to Gilbert should be dissolved over "irreconcilable differences." She noted they have been separated for five years and four months, with the official date of their breakup listed as "August 13, 2019."
Given how long their divorce has dragged on, it wasn't surprising that Perry didn't argue about Gilbert's demands for their separation. The actress had asked the court to terminate the duo's rights to spousal support, which sat well with her ex.
The singer not only agreed to forgo her rights to spousal support but also accepted Gilbert's request for joint legal and physical custody of their son. It is unclear if the little boy would primarily live with one of them as they both checked the boxes for visitation rights.
Additionally, child support doesn't appear to be an issue, as Perry did not request it. However, it remains to be seen if the sharing of their properties may be a problem, with the musician noting that she was unaware of their separate and community assets.
Sara Gilbert Pushed For Their Divorce In April
Last month, The Blast reported that Gilbert was moving forward with her decision to dissolve her marriage to Perry. She seemingly implied her willingness to be done with her ex-spouse as quickly as possible by not dragging out their divorce proceedings.
As stated, the actress requested the court to terminate the duo's rights to spousal support and asked for joint custody of their son, Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Lydon Perry. She also didn't ask for the coverage of her attorney fees, implying that the former couple should cover their respective costs.
Gilbert also noted that she was unaware of the duo's separate and community properties but reserved the right to amend her petition once she had the necessary information.
The Former Spouses Submitted A Settlement In 2021
Gilbert's move to dissolve her marriage to Perry came three years after the pair seemingly made progress in their divorce proceedings. In 2021, the duo submitted a settlement to the court and awaited a judge's approval.
The details of their divorce settlement were kept under wraps, but it was speculated that the pair had a prenuptial agreement. If they had a prenup, the document would decide the division of their assets and requests like spousal support.
However, no such document ever surfaced amid their separation. Gilbert and Perry filed to end their marriage after six years in December 2019, a move that shocked fans as it came shortly after claims of their blossoming relationship.
Gilbert & Perry Reportedly Maintained An Amicable Relationship
News of the former couple's separation came after sources claimed Gilbert left "The Talk" show to focus on her family. Apart from her son with Perry, the actress shares two children with the writer, Ali Adler.
The pair were also spotted on a family lunch date with their blended brood barely a week before the divorce filing. At the time, an insider claimed the pair would maintain an amicable relationship regardless of their divorce, saying:
"They were married for five years, and they share their son Rhodes. They don't hate each other and are still communicating."
The source noted that Gilbert and Perry's primary concern was their son, adding: "Unfortunately, the marriage didn't work out, but they still have to co-parent Rhodes, and there are no plans to avoid each other."
Sara Gilbert's Hit Show 'The Conners' Renewed For Its Seventh Season
There's good news for Gilbert amid her divorce from Perry as her hit show "The Conners" is scheduled for its seventh season. Sources claim the renewal is being finalized, and it is expected to wrap up the story.
The new season will reportedly have about six episodes, with its main cast expected to make a highly-anticipated return. The list includes Gilbert as Darlene Conner, John Goodman as Dan Conner, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner, and Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris.
"The Conners" renewal is a pleasant surprise for fans as showrunner Bruce Helford and star Goodman implied the show might end in its sixth season. At the time, Helford told Deadline:
"We've got a final episode that may be one or the other. We love it."
