The drama continues with Rachel Lindsay's separation from her estranged husband, Bryan Abasolo, with new claims about their marital home.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the "Bachelorette" star's ex-beau is demanding half of the duo's family residence. He claims the property is their community asset; however, Lindsay says it's her sole property.
Bryan Abasolo Says Rachel Lindsay Is Using Funds From Their Community Property
Lindsay, per Abasolo, has earned significant income from her business ventures. These jobs include a successful Apple Podcast called "Higher Learning" and several books like "Real Love" and "Miss Me with That."
However, Abasolo claims that despite having better finances than him, she used funds from their community property to pay her attorney fees and other costs. His argument, per the documents, read:
"I am informed and believe that Rachel has been using our community property monies to pay for her divorce lawyer and forensic accountant while refusing to give me access to any of our community property funds to pay my divorce lawyer, my forensic accountant, or any of my personal expenses."
Lindsay's Ex Claims He's Entitled To Half Of Their Community Property
According to Abasolo, the former couple's community property — which includes a Family Residence in North Hollywood — wasn't Lindsay's sole property. However, he was denied his rights despite allegedly being entitled to half of it.
"One of the main contested issues in our case is that Rachel is claiming that our Family Residence is her sole and separate property," Abasolo explained in the documents, adding:
"I believe that the majority, if not all, of the $466,000 down payment on our Family Residence came from community property earned during our marriage."
Abasolo noted that he could not hope to fight his case without funds and implored the Court to step in, writing: "I require attorney's fees and forensic accountant's fees to compete with Rachel's litigation team and secure my entitlement to one-half (1/2) of our community property."
Lindsay's Ex Wants Her To Cover His Financial Needs
The latest update about the former couple comes four months after Abasolo filed for divorce. In his initial filing, he requested spousal support and doubled down on this demand in his recent request for order (RFO).
Abasolo is asking the Court to order Lindsay to pay spousal support and cover his attorney fees and other costs incurred in their divorce proceedings. He isn't just asking for money without a justifiable reason, as he argued his case with a powerful declaration.
The couple met on the reality TV show, the "Bachelorette," and Abasolo was so smitten by Lindsay that he left his job as a chiropractor in Miami following the program's conclusion. He moved to his then-lover's hometown in Dallas, Texas, where she returned to practicing law.
Abasolo claimed the pair moved twice for Lindsay's career: first to Miami, Florida, and then to Hollywood, California. At their final stop, Lindsay advanced her name as a media personality, a move that saw her achieve several financial milestones.
Abasolo Claims He Paused His Career For Rachel Lindsay
As for why Abasolo is pushing for spousal support and the coverage of his attorney fees, he explained that he paused his career as a chiropractor to move twice for Lindsay.
This sacrifice led to the poor state of his finances while his ex-wife's "income and success as a media personality skyrocketed." The aggrieved ex-husband stressed that he wishes to move out of the duo's Family residence; however, he can't due to his lack of funds.
On that note, Abasolo wants Lindsay to cough up $50,000 in attorney's fees and costs and $25,000 in forensic accountant's fees. He estimates his legal expenses will eventually reach $64,750 as he has racked up a $37,694 bill.
The Former Couple Separated Last December
Earlier in January, The Blast reported that Abasolo had filed for divorce from Lindsay after four years together. In his divorce filing, the media personality's ex listed their date of separation as December 31, 2023.
Surprisingly, Abasolo pulled the plug on their relationship shortly after Lindsay claimed the pair were working to protect their marriage by being very private about their affairs.
"We don't put ourselves out there at all [except] maybe an anniversary or a holiday [post here and there]," she explained, adding: "But I think I did that because people were so critical of us when we came off the show."
