When'The Golden Bachelor' couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced they were getting a divorce, Bachelor Nation was left divided.

Some franchise members claim the news didn't surprise them, while others couldn't believe it, mainly because Turner and Nist had just married three months before their 'Good Morning America' interview.

One of Bachelor Nation's most beloved couples is now speaking out, revealing that they were "shocked" by the news.

On April 12, 2024, just three months after they wed, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist appeared on 'Good Morning America' to announce their divorce.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations," the 'Golden Bachelor' lead said during the interview. "And we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and -- and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage."

Nist added, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope."

The former couple claimed that location and family were the main reasons they decided that their marriage could not work.

'Bachelor In Paradise' stars Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt had previously spoken with Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist on their podcast, 'Bachelor Happy Hour,' where they really got to know the 70-year-olds.

Because they had a special connection and had seen the couple out of the reality television spotlight, they said they “were shocked” by the divorce news.

“We interviewed them a few times,” Amabile told PEOPLE of 'The Golden Bachelor' couple. “I thought they were both lovely people.”

However, while they were both great individuals, Amabile says that because they are later in life, changing location can be "tricky."

“Especially in your later years in life, you're pretty settled in whatever city you live in, so I do think it's hard to pick up and move your entire life when your family lives wherever," he told the outlet. "So, I could see where that was an issue.”

Nist lives in New Jersey, while Turner resides in Indiana.

Another 'Bachelor' alum, Nick Viall, who just got married to his longtime fiancé, Natalie Joy, also spoke out about the 'Golden Bachelor' divorce, speculating there could be more to the story than the couple has led on.

"I think what shocked me the most is this wasn't just a normal breakup or an end of an engagement, this was a divorce announcement. I was caught off guard, and surprised by the abruptness," he told PEOPLE in a previous interview. "I feel like maybe there's more to the story that we're not hearing."

"Maybe Gerry's not as golden as we hoped he would be," the former 'Bachelor In Paradise' star added.

Shortly after the 'Good Morning America' interview aired, Theresa Nist posted a statement on social media. 

"To everyone who has expressed love, support, and kindness to me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all such wonderful human beings. It means the world to me that you took the time to reach out to me, whether in person, on the phone, by text, or by direct message. You are all so kind to do so," she said at the time.

"For everyone else who is confused and angry and who does not understand, please try to find it in your heart to understand and to try a little kindness," she added. "Not just for me, but for the world and for everyone you encounter."

"Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned, and that’s okay," she continued. "I take so many positives away from this experience, most importantly and above all, the incredible friends I now have in all of these amazing, wonderful women."

Gerry Turner has yet to comment on the divorce following the 'GMA' interview.
