Three Reasons Why Creator UnderTheDeskNews Isn't Worried

Viral TikTok creator @UnderTheDeskNews recently shared some information on why everyone shouldn't worry too much at this point.

"Here's the three reasons I'm not feeling that bad about the TikTok ban that passed the Senate last night and is headed to Biden's desk for signature," she said. "Looking at this piece of legislation, it was incredibly rushed and it is incredibly limited. It is the least harmful attempt to ban TikTok we have seen in the last year."

She explained that Trump's attempt to ban TikTok in 2020 was "an actual ban" as well as other attempts that have failed.

"Here's the second reason why I'm not totally worried. TikTok is expected to challenge this based on capitalist principles. They're gonna set up a high stakes and lengthy battle that will keep this legislation unenforceable for, I don't know until this app isn't even fun anymore," she continued.

"I've also been reached out to by a lawyer who is trying to put together a class action lawsuit of creators and businesses who would be negatively impacted if this ban were to go into effect."

The third reason she's not concerned at this time is if an "individual state's governor and their attorney general would bring a lawsuit against the federal government for trying to force this TikTok ban, the state could try and show that its residents are experiencing undue harm," and it would go to the Supreme Court where they could argue a "First Amendment violation."

'Everyone Is Standing For TikTok' Amid Possible Ban

Another creator who shares news, @BaldNewsNetworks, also shared his take on the possible ban.

He shared a clip from TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew's recently shared video talking about the ban.

"We aren't going anywhere. We're confident and will keep fighting for your rights in court," Chew said. "The facts and the Constitution are on our side."

The content creator also pointed out the fact that "7 million American business owners" are on TikTok and make their "livelihood" on the app. He also pointed out that while TikTok fights for our rights in court, everyone will still be able to enjoy TikTok like they have been.

"TikTok has impacted my life because it's given me time to be with my family and give me more money than I ever had in my life," he continued. "Given me the confidence to go to other social media apps and make money off of those, too, more than here now, but without TikTok, I would have never done those things."

One of his followers took to the comments to agree by saying, "I agree TikTok is not going anywhere." Another person shared, "This app saved me from mental breakdown, gave me back my confidence to continue in life."

Another Creator Talked About How Congress Bundled Multiple Issues In One Bill

Content creator Freddie Smith shared a video talking about the fact that the TikTok ban was bundled into a Bill that includes other issues.

"We all understand why you wanna ban TikTok so bad. Because we're becoming a nation of critical thinkers and we're starting to question everything," he said. "What's something that we're questioning? Why we have a system in this country where Congress can bundle multiple issues, put them into one Bill and then vote yes or no on multiple issues."

He continued to explain that they should have been voting on individual bills, and not one with many different issues bundled into it.

"We see through it. This is an incredibly flawed system and it is impressive that you've gotten away with this sh-- for so long," he said.

If TikTok Gets Banned, Why Not Just Use A VPN?

Some other creators are talking about the loophole of using a VPN if the app does in fact get banned in the United States, and others are explaining why it's not that easy.

TikTok account @diedmadaboutit shared why using a VPN may not be a possibility.

"Technically yes, you could do that and yes it would work, however, if something called the Restrict Act gets passed, also known as S686, you're not gonna wanna use those VPNs to access TikTok because it specifically outlines in 686 the fact that anything used in more than one million units in the U.S., including things like VPNs, to get to things they consider foreign adversary internets or apps, you can get in big time trouble for that stuff," she explained.

One viewer asked, "But like how can half of the US get in trouble?" and another said, "Surely if millions use VPN they can't get all the people."

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew Shared A Message On TikTok Amid Potential Ban

Chew also shared a video on TikTok to address what's going on and put content creators at some level of ease as this issue progresses.

"As you may have heard, Congress passed a bill that the President signed into law that is designed to ban TikTok in the United States," he said. "That will take TikTok away from you, and 170 million Americans who find community and connection on our platform."

He reiterated that "this is a ban," and not only on TikTok but also "on you and your voice."

"It's obviously a disappointing moment, but it does not need to be a defining one," he continued. "Rest assured, we aren't going anywhere. We are confident and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts."

Chew said that the facts and the Constitution are on their side and "we expect to prevail again."
