The Canadian actor also highlighted his uncle Bill's impact, recalling his support during a challenging time: "And my uncle Bill. When I was in school, he said, 'I'm gonna put all your achievements in a scrapbook.'"
He added: "I didn't want the scrapbook to stay empty. Uncle Bill believed in me at a time when I didn't really believe in myself."

During an acceptance speech at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in January, Gosling shared a heartfelt tribute to Mendes, referring to her as "the girl of my dreams."

"They're great at balancing everything," they added.
Gosling and Mendes' connection goes back to their time filming Derek Cianfrance's crime drama, "The Place Beyond the Pine," in 2011, where they portrayed a couple with a young son.

Describing it as a "no-brainer," Mendes explained: "I'm so lucky if I could have this time with my children."
The actress shared that while she still works, she prefers not to act because "acting takes you on location. It takes you away."
"It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, 'Okay, he's going to work and I'm going to work. I'm just going to work here,'" Mendes noted. "He went and he did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it and he came home."
Ryan Gosling's 'The Fall Guy' To Hit Cinemas On May 3
For his latest project, Gosling will appear as lead actor and executive producer in the action-packed romantic comedy The Fall Guy, which has a $125M budget and will hit theaters in the US and UK on May 3.
Gosling revealed the intense experience of performing a 12-story fall for a pivotal scene, admitting to blacking out.
"I think I blacked out for at least nine of those stories. I have a fear of heights, and I knew it was coming," the actor shared.
"The movie's called 'The Fall Guy.' We worked into the story that I would take a fall at the beginning. It was also important for me to experience what a moment in a stunt performer's life might be like if I was gonna play one," he added.
In preparation for the role, the award-winning actor shared that he intentionally gained weight and "ate more."
