The parents of a three-year-old and a five-year-old were arrested at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for child neglect after they drank too much.
Robert and Janine Pecha, who were visiting from Staten Island, New York, were arrested for third-degree felony child neglect.
Robert was also charged with misdemeanor domestic violence after he hit his wife in the face.
Parents Charged With Third-Degree Felony Child Neglect
The family was staying at Disney's Polynesian Resort when the incident occurred.
Per the arrest report, which was obtained by Walt Disney World News Today, the parents were highly intoxicated and passed out on their bed. It is unclear who called the police, but upon arrival, they found several empty alcohol containers in the bathroom.
“I tapped and shook both of their legs and called out for them to wake up. Attempts were initially unsuccessful; however, with repeated attempts, both subjects began to wake up. It was evident that both Robert and Janine were heavily intoxicated. They had slow responses to verbal questions, slurred speech, and had difficulty walking or standing,” the arresting police officer wrote in the arrest report.
Officers Respond To Call At Walt Disney World
“Janine, at one point, nearly fell over in the bathroom due to her intoxication. Robert and Janine were asked what was going on, and they both replied nothing. I asked how much alcohol they each had consumed. Robert stated one drink, and Janine was adamant that she had consumed no alcohol. They were unaware of how intoxicated they were," the report continued.
When speaking to officers, the couple claimed they did not fight. However, the children told police that their parents were drinking all day and later got into an argument over Robert allegedly not spending enough time with the family. According to the report, one of the children claimed their father hit their mother “several times in the face with an open hand."
The children repeatedly said, “No, Daddy,” the report said.
Florida Department of Children and Families Gets Involved
According to the arrest report, which was released several weeks after the parents were taken into custody, Mr. and Mrs. Pecha have been married for 12 years and there is no known history of domestic violence.
Florida Department of Children and Families have taken custody of their 5-year-old and 3-year-old as there were no other family or friends nearby, per the arrest report. Meanwhile, Janine and Robert were taken to the hospital to treat their intoxication. They were both taken to jail afterward.
Other Recent Arrests At Disney World
Last week, The Blast reported an arrest at Disney Springs, the shopping and dining district at Walt Disney World.
A homeless man, Zachary Coley, was arrested after he was “acting erratic” at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, according to the arrest report. The Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to the call. When officers approached Coley, he allegedly pulled out two bags of candy from his laptop bag and asked the law enforcement officer if he wanted any.
“After telling Zachary multiple times that I did not want the candy, he attempted to place it on my external body armor. When he observed that the bag would not stay where he was trying to place it, with the candy still in his hand, he grabbed the front of my vest in the area of the neck, abruptly jerked it away from my body, and began to shove the candy down the front of the inside of my vest," the deputy said in the arrest report.
Coley was arrested and taken to jail.
Man Arrested At Disney World Over Alleged Assault On Teenager
Earlier this year, The Blast reported on an arrest made on a former hotel Vice President after allegedly slapping a teenage worker at a Walt Disney World restaurant.
John Munro, 64, of South Carolina, was visiting Cítricos -- a high-class restaurant at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida -- where he was highly intoxicated and allegedly gave the hostess of the restaurant an issue about the dining reservation and the dress code.
Munro showed up in swim shorts and a T-shirt, which does not meet the dress code requirements for the restaurant. After being informed he could not dine at the restaurant, he "began to repeatedly slap her forehead" three times as he stated the hostess's name, per the arrest report.
He was arrested on battery charges and released on a $1,000 bond the next morning.
