While fans expected O.J. and Marguerite Whitley's kids — Arnelle and Jason, to visit his bedside, they were understandably shocked about Sydney and Justin's visit.

Recall that the late athlete was accused of killing the young children's mother and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1994.

Despite his acquittal on murder charges, the California native was subsequently found civilly liable for Nicole and Ron's deaths. Following these events, O.J. took on the role of raising Sydney and Justin, who is now 38 years old and 35 years old, respectively.

However, since they have never publicly discussed the entire ordeal, their feelings about the matter are unclear. Also unknown is the extent of their relationship with their father in adulthood, per TMZ.

Before his passing, Simpson had become known for regularly sharing updates about his life on social media platform X.

One such update, a video of him reassuring fans that his health was improving, has now become his last post. In the reel captured before the 2024 Super Bowl, the City College of San Francisco alum told fans:

"My health is good. I mean, I'm dealing with some issues, but hey, I think I'm just about over it, and I'll be back on that golf course hopefully in a couple of weeks."

"But it was very nice hearing from you and those good, positive words. Thank you," he added in the February 11 video.

O.J.'s football career started at the University of Southern California, where he earned the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1968. He then made his mark with the Buffalo Bills after the team selected him as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft.

Following the end of tenure with the Bills in 1977, O.J. moved on to the San Francisco 49ers for the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

He became the NFL MVP in 1973 after becoming the first player in league history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season. He held that record for 11 years until Eric Dickerson surpassed it in 1984.

O.J.'s excellence on the field also earned him other recognitions, including six selections to the Pro Bowl and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

Besides being accused of killing Nicole, the retired running back was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

He was subsequently convicted in 2008 and sentenced to 33 years' imprisonment, with a minimum of nine years without parole. He served his sentence at the Lovelock Correctional Center in rural Nevada and was granted parole in July 2017.

He was subsequently released from prison in October of the same year, receiving early release from parole in December 2021.
