Will Smith Drops Sage Advice on Marriage In Wake of Jen & Justin Split

Will Smith just offered up some deep wisdom about marriage and happiness that blew our minds following the news of the Jen Aniston and Justin Theroux split.
Smith said he and Jada were reflecting on love when she told him one of her biggest revelations was that "you cannot make a person happy."
The point is that happiness is "out of your control," and Smith says he and Jada realized they had come into a false concept that marriage would make them one person, but they realized they were "Two completely separate people on two completely separate individual journeys," and decided that they needed to each find their own internal happiness and fulfillment to survive as a couple.
He makes it clear that placing responsibility for your happiness on your spouse can be destructive.
The interesting connection is that the public is devastated for the breakup of Jen and Justin, but they obviously made the decision to search for their own happiness, and have decided a split is what they each needed to live their best lives.
Their joint statement says as much: "This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship."
Will and Jada have been married for over 20 years, and clearly have some very mature and healthy views on what it takes for a lasting relationship.
Of course ... it also helps when you can lay down some smooth Luther Vandross now and then also.
