Tom Hanks Receives Signed Helmet From IndyCar Champ for Military Charity Work

Tom Hanks' charity work really revs the engines of some of racing's best, so they honored him with an impressive award.

The "Toy Story 4" star was in Indianapolis, Indiana at a luncheon for the charity Hidden Heroes when he and Sen. Elizabeth Dole received autographed helmets from 2014 Indy500 winner, Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Hidden Heroes is a charity that provides support for military caregivers and raises awareness for all the people who care for U.S. veterans.

Hunter-Reay shared the picture of him presenting the helmets to Dole and Hanks and said, "Pleasure presenting @tomhanks & @elizabethdolefoundation with signed #Indy500 helmets today. Thanks for all you do with #HiddenHeroes. Hope to see you out at @indianapolismotorspeedway sometime and show you around the @dhlus car!"

The charity was founded by Dole and Hanks acts as the Hidden Heroes Campaign Chair.

The organization's website says Hanks, "uses his voice to bring attention to our nation’s military caregiving crisis."

The Oscar winner also chimed in on the event, and said, "We the People. #hiddenheroes. Veteran Care Givers. Connect if you have a wounded veteran in your family! Hanx"

Hanks will also take part in a live Hidden Heroes broadcast, along with Sheryl Crow, Thursday on the "Today."

Hanks recently sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and talked about the struggles he endured at the Stagecoach music festival when he showed up to watch his wife, Rita Wilson, perform. Hopefully the star will have less trouble if he decides to meet up with Hunter-Reay at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
