After a four-year absence from social media, Duffy, born Aimee Anne Duffy, broke her silence on Instagram with a message of love for her fans. The singer, known for hits like "Mercy," shared an uplifting video about the pursuit of happiness.

The clip, posted from the "philosphart" account, emphasized the importance of self-discovery and self-compassion. "You're going to realize that happiness was never about your job or your degree or being in a relationship," the video voiceover began.

It continued: "Happiness was never about following in the footsteps of all of those who came before you. It was never about being like the others. One day, you're going to see it. That happiness was always about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart and following it wherever it chose to go."

In April 2020, Duffy penned a deeply personal essay recounting the chilling events of her birthday celebration. She detailed being drugged in a restaurant and subsequently abducted, finding herself in a foreign land.

The Welsh singer said she "could have been disposed of by him" and bravely shared how her captor "made veiled confessions of wanting to kill" her.

Despite contemplating escape, she felt paralyzed by the threat of violence. "I do not know how I had the strength to endure those days," she wrote.

The singer then described being transported back to the U.K. by her captor, where she endured further drugging for weeks. "I do not know if he raped me there during that time," Duffy added.

Fearful for her safety, she refrained from seeking help from authorities, fearing retaliation and public exposure.

"It didn't feel safe to go to the police. I felt if anything went wrong, I would be dead, and he would have killed me," she wrote.

"I could not risk being mishandled or being all over the news during my danger. I really had to follow what instincts I had. I have told two female police officers, during different threatening incidents in the past decade, it is on record," she added, per People.
