"It feels great. I'm just so wowed right now and so thankful to even have this opportunity to wear this jersey," Spreen said while feeling overwhelmed with emotion as she was presented with the jersey in front of the Miss Basketball display at Bedford North Lawrence High School. "I definitely couldn't have done it without my family, teammates, and coaches who've supported me through everything. To wear this jersey is going to be a great feeling, but I definitely couldn't have done it without them."

Being The 'Best One'

The basketball star's journey began in second grade when she first picked up the sport, but it wasn't until fourth or fifth grade that she began to take it more seriously. She vividly recalls the pivotal moment when her dedication deepened: after her team suffered two defeats at the county tournament, leaving her feeling "torn apart."

"It was so much more than basketball. It changed my mentality," said Spreen. "I was like, 'Alright, I'm going to be the best one out here now.' … I just wanted to be the best one, and I wanted to win."
