Despite competing in the relatively modest San Jose State program, Dragoi, hailing from Romania, has garnered a substantial following on Instagram, establishing herself as one of the most-followed NCAA swimmers.

No Big Profits For Andreea Dragoi

Despite being dubbed the "World's Sexiest Swimmer" and "The Olivia Dunne of the Pool," Dragoi finds herself unable to capitalize on her name, image, or likeness (NIL) due to visa regulations, highlighting the challenges faced by athletes navigating the complex landscape of sponsorship and endorsement opportunities.
Due to F-1 visa regulations, the San Jose State University swimmer faces limitations in pursuing endorsements, as international students like her are prohibited from profiting from their likeness while residing in the U.S. Although international athletes can engage in group marketing endeavors managed by third parties, promoting products independently on social media poses a risk of visa revocation. While students can participate in campaigns abroad, they are restricted from signing with talent agencies, leaving Dragoi solely responsible for organizing endorsements outside the U.S.
Lifeguard Duties

"I'm doing it all on my own," Dragoi shared with SwimSwam. "It made me learn a lot from the process and how to manage everything. Everyone thinks I have a [management] team behind me at this point, and I'm like, 'Nope.'"
To sustain herself, Dragoi commits 20 hours weekly to her role as a lifeguard at San Jose State, a position permitted for international students and beneficial to the campus community. However, despite her dedication, she struggles to afford even a plane ticket to reunite with her mother in Europe.
"Everyone's like, 'Oh my god, she's a lifeguard.' But the thing is, I have no other choice. It's the only job that I can do, being on campus, because of my visa," she lamented.
