Soulja Boy has been ordered to pay $10M in damages relating to a s-xual battery lawsuit from 2021.
The rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, rose to fame in the mid-2000s thanks to his hit song and dance, 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)'. Since his breakthrough, Soulja Boy has released several albums and mixtapes, and has collaborated with other artists. He also starred as himself in VH1's 'Love and Hip Hop'.
He has also been accused of assault. The victim, who filed the lawsuit anonymously, alleged the rapper beat her repeatedly over years. Now, he must pay millions in damages.
Soulja Boy Faces S-xual Battery Allegations
The original lawsuit, filed by lawyer Neama Rahmani on behalf of an unnamed Jane Doe in civil court in 2021, cites domestic violence, gender violence, negligence, assault, s-xual battery, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
"(Jane Doe) and (Way) first began their on-and-off romantic relationship in 2007," the original lawsuit stated. "They restarted their relationship in a more serious capacity in 2014 until mid 2019 when (Doe) could no longer withstand (Way's) constant abuse."
"It took her years to escape the psychological and physical grasp of her abuser," Rahmani told USA TODAY.
Soulja Boy Accused Of Physical Abuse
The accuser said she and the rapper lived together by late 2015, and she was pregnant with his child. The docs then cite one specific attack so severe that she suffered a miscarriage.
Per the lawsuit, one day the two were having a "simple conversation" when Way "quickly became irate and violent."
"During their conversation, (Way) began to punch (Doe) in the face and chest, until she could no longer stand on her feet," the lawsuit stated. She says she fell down and covered her body to protect her stomach. Way allegedly continued to kick her, including in her stomach area.
"Soon thereafter, (Doe) suffered a miscarriage and was unable to carry her pregnancy into full term," the lawsuit said, adding that two years later, Way allegedly attacked her when she said she wanted to spend time with her grandmother. His security guards reportedly got involved and pulled the rapper off of her.
Now, according to the docs, obtained by The Blast, the rapper must pay $5M in pain, suffering, and inconvenience, and $5M in emotional distress, totaling $10M in damages.
Soulja Boy Sued By Another Jane Doe
This is not the first lawsuit to be filed against Soulja Boy. In January 2021, a woman, who worked as his personal assistant, filed a civil suit alleging he s-xually abused her, beat her, and held her hostage. According to NBC, the first lawsuit, filed by Jane Doe, "says the abuse began when Way sent the woman an unsolicited picture of his p-nis shortly after she started working for him."
The following month, Way s-xually assaulted the woman for the first time, claiming he "expressed remorse" after and gave her $1,000. Later, "on numerous occasions, and sometimes twice in the same day, Defendant Way would inappropriately touch Plaintiff’s body, forcefully pull her pants off, and r-ped her," the lawsuit said.
"Over the course of this abusive relationship, Defendant Way punched Plaintiff directly in the head on at least ten separate occasions," the suit added.
Soulja Boy Allegedly Physically Abusive In Past Relationships
Jane Doe's lawyer, Neama Rahmani, said in a statement, “Way’s treatment of our client, as an employee and as a person who deserves respect, has traumatized and filled her with fear."
Adding, "His abuse imprisoned her physically, mentally and emotionally. When she mustered the courage to flee, he impoverished her. His exploitation severely hampered our client’s ability to re-establish herself in the workplace and in society. We believe he should be held accountable.”
Both Jane Does are being represented by Rahmani, a former prosecutor.
Soulja Boy 'Would Never Put His Hands On A Female'
A spokesperson told TMZ at the time, "Soulja would never put his hands on a female. He wouldn't beat a woman or put his hands on a woman ... this is non-sense!!!"
The rapper previously served time in 2019 for violating probation stemming from weapons possession charges.
