Miami police have confirmed the death of Konstantin Koltsov, a former NHL player and boyfriend to Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka. When he died, Koltsov was in Miami to support Sabalenka at the ongoing Miami Open tournament.
Despite the loss, the tennis star will still reportedly feature in the tennis competition. Koltsov and Sabalenka started dating in 2021 and frequently posted photos and appreciation of each other on social media.

On Monday, the Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed the death of Konstantin Koltsov to People Magazine. Koltsov was a former NHL star and was dating Aryna Sabalenka, the current No. 2 ranked player in tennis.
The police statement read, "According to investigators on Monday, March 18, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Bal Harbour Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, 9703 Collins Avenue, in reference to a male that jumped from a balcony."
They further noted that "The Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau responded and has taken over the investigation of the apparent suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov. No foul play is suspected."
Koltsov played professional ice hockey for about 18 years, starting with his draft into the NHL in 1999. He represented Belarus in major tournaments like the IIHF World Championships and the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He officially retired from playing ice hockey professionally in November 2016.

Koltsov's death was completely unexpected. He was in Miami to support Sabalenka during her appearance in the Miami Open, which just started on Sunday.
He regularly traveled to support her in various tennis tournaments, so his trip to Miami was not unusual.
Koltsov was there to support Sabalenka during the Melbourne tennis tournament about two months ago. He celebrated with her as she won the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup for the second year in a row.
Aryna Sabalenka Will Still Compete In The Miami Open
According to a tweet from The Tennis Letter, despite losing Koltsov, Sabalenka will still compete in the Miami Open.
However, she will not be available to the media for any questions. Many fans commiserating with the tennis star flooded the comment section with messages of support.
One fan wrote, "Incredibly brave. Before anyone may question her decision, people deal with grief differently and we should respect whatever decision she makes and support her regardless."
Another person commented, "Konstantin's death happened so suddenly, l wonder if it hasn't hit her yet? There'll be time to grieve after Miami. My sympathies & condolences to her."
The Couple Started Their Relationship In 2021

Koltsov and Sabalenka began their romantic relationship in 2021. The couple went Instagram official with a post from Sabalenka of Koltsov kissing her on the cheek. The caption read, "It's good when there is someone who is able to understand my madness. But you won't get bored with me, right @koltsov2021 ?"
After their soft launch, Sabalenka and Koltsov regularly posted photos of themselves together on Instagram.
One post read, "I love you @koltsov2021," with lots of hearts and sweet emojis. On his birthday, the tennis star posted more adorable photos with the caption, "Happy birthday, my love. You are my dearest person, my best friend and my strongest support. Peace be with you, strength, patience, and health."
Koltsov also didn't shy away from showing off his love for Sabalenka. On International Women's Day, the former NHL star posted a gallery of pictures of Sabalenka and celebrated her presence in his life. The caption read, "Happy holiday, my love, I love you madly."
Konstantin Koltsov's Former Teams Announced His Death

Koltsov's death has also been confirmed by the teams he previously worked with. The news was first announced in a statement posted by Salavat Yulaev Ufa, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team where he worked in the coaching team.
The statement read, "It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that Salavat Yulaev coach Konstantin Koltsov has passed away. He was a strong and cheerful person, he was loved and respected by players, colleagues, and fans. Konstantin Evgenievich forever wrote himself into the history of our club."
They also noted that he coached them to winning the Russian Championship and the Gagarin Cup "and did a great job on the team's coaching staff."
The Penguins also posted a statement on their social media pages acknowledging Koltsov's death. It read, "The Penguins extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of former Penguins forward Konstantin Koltsov."
