Olivia Rodrigo's decision to hand out condoms and Plan B at her concert was, perhaps, a bad idea as her music has taken a hit with 'Vampire' dropping streams.

As you probably know, the controversy surrounding Olivia Rodrigo has divided fans and politicians as some are thanking the singer for advocating women's reproductive rights, while others think her fan base is too young for that to be a topic of discussion.

A few days ago, during her Missouri concert, the 'Vampire' singer teamed up with the Missouri Abortion Fund to hand out items such as condoms and Plan B as a way to advocate and support women’s reproductive rights.

The handouts had stickers that say, "Funding abortion, it’s a good idea right?'” seemingly referring to Rodrigo’s famous lyric “it’s a bad idea right?” The stickers also say “We can help you find abortion care.”

While some took offense to this, Jade Hurley, the communications manager for the DC Abortion Fund, told Variety, “The reality is that youth have sex, and youth need access to birth control and emergency contraception."

Adding, "What we’re doing is completely legal in all 50 states.”

It's unclear if this is due to the controversy surrounding the artist, but the timing of it all has raised some eyebrows.

Two years ago, during her show in Washington, DC, the former Disney Channel actress told her fans, “Because we’re in DC, I want to say I’m heartbroken after what’s happened here this week about the Supreme Court’s potential decision to overturn abortion."

She has been a huge advocate for women's reproductive rights over the years. "Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians. I hope we can raise our voices to protect our right, to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get," she added at the time.

Plus, in June 2022, Rodrigo once again slammed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. “I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this,” she said, per The Guardian. “I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have shown us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s--- about freedom.”

“The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you.”

She then went on to sing 'F--- You' alongside Lily Allen.

According to organizers, following the controversy and backlash Rodrigo has received, local abortion funds are “no longer allowed to hand out free emergency birth control pills and other reproductive health resources at the concerts.”

Right by You founder Stephanie Kraft Sheley spoke to Variety following the backlash, specifically regarding concerns of children being exposed to s-xual health resources. "The idea that we haven’t been thoughtful or careful in carrying out our work at this event, or any event, is just incorrect," she told the outlet, adding, “Our position is that it does not hurt a young person to see us out in the community doing that work."

Sheley claims that “it was very normal to see a younger child walk up with curiosity with their parent and have the parent explain to them what’s on the table and why we’re here.”
