Family of Man Killed Outside Meek Mill Concert Demand Rapper Be Deposed Over Shooting

The family of the man shot outside Meek Mill's concert is demanding the rapper not be allowed to skip out on a deposition in the case.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the estate of Travis Ward is asking a judge to not grant Meek’s recent motion to avoid being questioned about the case.

The estate claims they have a right to question Meek about the 2016 concert shooting that left Ward dead.

They say Meek failed to mention that someone saw a gun inside the venue on the night in question and “that the atmosphere created by Mill was known to attract gun-wielding individuals and to erupt in violence.”

They are asking the judge to order Meek to sit and answer questions regarding the shooting.

The judge has yet to rule.

As The Blast first reported, Meek filed documents earlier this month asking the judge to order he did not have to sit for a depo. He said until the family suing him could prove he had relevant information for them, the judge should shut them down.

He also pleaded for a protective order saying if he was forced to sit for a depo that the videotape of it should be sealed.

Meek’s lawyer wrote, “The noticed deposition of Mill is a thinly-veiled attempt to harass a public figure who had no relationship to the Plaintiffs’ injuries to try to extract a nuisance settlement. The Court should not permit this abuse.”

Back in 2017, the rapper was sued by the estate of Jaquan Graves for wrongful death after Graves was shot and killed outside Meek’s 2016 concert in Connecticut.

Meek was also hit with a separate lawsuit by the estate of Travis Ward, who was killed during the shooting outside the venue. Both estates have offered to settle their cases for $3 million each.

The lawsuits accused Meek – along with the Oakdale Musical Theatre Company and Live Nation – of being negligent in the handling of security of the concert. One suit even pointed to Meek’s lyrics claiming they incite violence and described how Meek’s concert have had shootings in the past.

Meek has denied all allegations he was negligent or had any role in contributing to the shooting, saying it was out of his control and he could not have known the shooting was going to happen.

The rapper recently demanded he be let out of Graves lawsuit. Meek Mill claims police found gunshot residue on the decedent, “which indicate that he discharged a firearm during the melee.”
