After a contract dispute that resulted in Neve Campbell exiting the 'Scream' franchise, the actress has a new update for fans.
As you know, Campbell made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Sydney Prescott as she left the horror movie franchise after a dispute over fair pay.
Just when fans thought Sydney was no more -- the 'Scream' actress had a surprising change of heart.
Neve Campbell Is Returning To 'Scream'!
When reflecting on her decision to exit the franchise due to a dispute in fair pay, Neve Campbell said, “We have to stand up for women in this business and know what we’re worth. That hasn’t changed for me. So, if they were to come back to me, it would have to be with a respectful offer that I felt was in keeping with what I bring to this franchise.”
Now, however, the tides have changed as fans can once again hear the words, "Hello, Sydney."
“Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!” Campbell announced on Instagram Tuesday. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the ‘Scream’ movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned."
Is 'Scream' Paying Up?
There have been no details regarding Campbell's new contract, but one can expect the franchise paid up in order for her to agree to return.
All Campbell said in her Instagram post relating to her return was, "I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
What we do know is that 'Scream' creator and writer Kevin Williamson is taking over as director of 'Scream 7.' He was the brain behind the first, second and fourth 'Scream' movies. He was also the executive producer of the 2022 reboot and its sequel “Scream 6.”
"While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm," Campbell said in her announcement, "And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct 'Scream 7'!"
Kevin Williamson Returns As Director Of 'Scream 7'
Campbell announced her return about the same time as Kevin Williamson, who first took to social media, writing, “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, ‘Scream,’ was directed by the legendary Wes Craven."
Adding, "I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire ‘Scream’ family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ franchise. Thank you to all the ‘Scream’ fans. You are the gift that keeps giving.”
The Blast will continue to report on any new details surrounding Campbell's new contract and any updates regarding 'Scream 7.'
Melissa Barrera Fired From 'Scream' Franchise
As you know, Melissa Barrera, who portrays one of the main characters, Samantha Carpenter, in the newest ‘Scream’ films, was fired from her role as the production company announced she would not return for the upcoming movie.
The firing came after Barrera posted to social media, taking a stance on the Israel-Hamas war and showing her support for the Free Palestine movement.
Following her firing, Neve Campbell came out and admitted that the franchise was scrambling, even saying that she "wouldn't be surprised to get a call" after Melissa Barrera’s firing and Jenna Ortega’s exit.
“I know things are spinning at the moment, and I would imagine they are spinning at the top trying to figure out what they’re going to do. I would not be surprised to get a call,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
Neve Campbell Reflects On 'Scream' Exit
“But at the same time, I made a strong statement a few years ago, which is I did not believe that the way that I was treated would’ve happened if I had been a male and that I deserve a certain thing for having carried this franchise for as long as I have.”
Well, horror movie fans -- looks like either 'Scream' paid up, or Campbell had a change of heart. Either way, we cannot wait to say "Hello, Sydney!"
