Following Matthew Perry's death, his estate's worth has been revealed... and it is much lower than one may have expected!
As you know, the 'Friends'actor passed away last year from “acute effects of the drug Ketamine,” according to the autopsy report. Ketamine is a drug that he was using as part of therapy to combat depression.
Now, months after the world learned of his passing, his last will and testament, obtained by The Blast, has revealed that his estate is worth less than what many would think -- despite his 'Friends' royalties.
Inside Matthew Perry's Final Will and Testament
According to documents, obtained by The Blast, Matthew Perry created a will in 2009, which states that the actor's personal property has been listed at $1M, which, at surface level, may come as a shock considering he was a big Hollywood actor and was part of one of the biggest shows in history -- 'Friends.'
His Will also states Perry wants to leave a majority of his belongings to a trust.
After examining the docs further, it seems the $1M listed is what the additional assets are worth -- and not what is already listed in the private trust.
Matthew Perry's Personal Property Value Revealed
"All of [Perry's] personal and household effects, including, but not limited to, jewelry, furniture and furnishings, works of art and automobiles, together with any insurance on such property, shall pass as part of [Perry's] residuary estate," per the documents.
The Will states that any children the actor may have had after 2009 are not entitled to his fortune. However, he never ended up having children. He was also never married.
In Article 3 it states, "All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate (my "residuary estate") shall be distributed to the Trustees of THE ALVY SINGER LIVING TRUST."
Lisa Ferguson, who is listed as the Trustee of the Alvy Singer Living Trust, and Robin Ruzan have been listed as nominated Co-Executors. In other words, they are the two in charge of determining how Perry's property and assets will be divided. Although it should be noted that further down in the documents, Ruzan's signature can be seen declining to act as Executor.
Perry's ex-girlfriend Rachel Dunn is listed as a possible beneficiary, whom he dated from 2003 to 2005.
Matthew Perry Passes Away
While the autopsy named “acute effects of the drug Ketamine" as the cause of death, it also noted that the Ketamine found in Perry’s system could not have been from his Ketamine therapy, as the drug’s half-life is just a few hours and his last known treatment was over one week before he passed.
“The cause of death for 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as the acute effects of ketamine. Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder),” the document states.
Perry’s “history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema, diabetes; drug use in past — reportedly clean for 19 months; heavy tobacco user for many years but currently not smoking; on ketamine infusion therapy with most recent therapy reportedly one and a half weeks before death,” the autopsy report stated.
Matthew Perry's Cause of Death Revealed
For those who are unaware, Ketamine is a secluded anesthetic medication, also known as a psychedelic drug, that can be used in Ketamine therapy, a treatment used by many celebrities to manage mental health conditions, such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
While Perry was using ketamine therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression, the Ketamine found in his system at the time of his death was not from the supervised treatment because his last known treatment was 1.5 weeks before his death, and Ketamine’s half-life is three to four hours.
Plus, no visible needle marks were found on Perry’s body, which is interesting because Ketamine used in therapy is either injected or used via nasal spray. The Ketamine found in his body at the time of death was detected in the stomach contents, meaning it is more than likely he consumed the drug by mouth.
It is important to note that the autopsy report states that “the exact method of intake in Mr. Perry’s case is unknown.”
According to Marca, Perry had a net worth of $120 million during his successful Hollywood career.
