Aaron Franklin’s legendary Texas BBQ joint was almost destroyed when an accidental fire caused the building to go up in flames.
The fire broke out in Franklin’s wood-framed smokehouse early Saturday morning.
Austin Fire Dept responded to the scene quickly to gain control of the blaze, but the smokehouse was completely destroyed. The restaurant, which sites separately from the smokehouse, survived.

Franklin told the Washington Post heavy-winds created by Hurricane Harvey were to blame, and the wind “just kind of swept through the smokehouse a lot more than we’re used to and carried an ember from a cooker and caught a wall on fire,”
The restaurant is closed indefinitely until repairs can be made.
