Prince William Is 'Surprised' And 'Jealous' Of The Success Of Prince Harry's Invictus Games

The Prince of Wales, Prince William, reportedly has a "degree of jealousy" over his younger brother, Prince Harry, regarding the success of his Invictus Games.

In the wake of Harry's recent trip to visit his father, King Charles III, a source said there are no plans for the siblings to reunite. However, in an interview, the Duke of Sussex shared that he loves his family and said his father's cancer diagnosis might help bring them all together.

Amid the recent release of Harry's ABC Special, titled "Prince Harry's Mission: Life, Family and Invictus Games," a British journalist, Robert Jobson, reflected on the relationship between the Duke and his brother William. He claimed that William was shocked by the success of his brother's Invictus Games.

Jobson noted that the sporting event, which is Harry's "number one passion project," has been extremely successful since he launched it. He said, "It doesn't come cheap, it costs a lot of money, and he's been able to continue to raise that money throughout this period, which is impressive."

The reporter then discussed how William has "a degree of jealousy" regarding Harry's success. He explained that the Prince of Wales was quite "surprised" by the level of financing that's gone into the program and "how many governments were getting involved."

Harry's new special featured footage from his recent interview with Will Reeve on "Good Morning America." The interview happened during his trip to Canada with his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, for the one-year countdown of the Invictus Games.

After the release of his "Spare" memoir, Harry opened up about his relationship with William to "Good Morning America's" Michael Strahan. He spoke about the rift between them and said there's always "been this competition." Harry said it was a narrative pushed by the British press, who painted them in the "heir/spare" light.

He added, "They pitched the Waleses — of which Kate and William are now — against the Sussexes, me and my wife. They've always pitched us against each other. They pitched Kate and Meghan against each other."

In the ABC News special, Royal commentator Victoria Murphy talked about how William and the rest of the royal family stepped back from Invictus after Harry and Meghan's 2020 exit.

She said, "Harry is no longer a working royal. Invictus no longer sits under the umbrella of organizations that the royal family officially are part of and therefore, they haven't mentioned it at all since Harry stepped back as a working royal."

After Harry's recent trip to the U.K. to visit King Charles following his cancer diagnosis, a Royal source commented on his and William's refusal to see each other.

They said there were "no plans" for the brothers to meet up, which was evidenced by Harry's quick return to California after visiting his father.

Murphy said, "I thought it was really interesting not just that William didn't want to see Harry when he came over to the U.K., but he was happy for people to know that he had no plans to see him. I think that says a lot about how significant those hostilities still are."

The rift between the two royal couples has been more public since Harry and Meghan left the Royal Foundation and started planning their own philanthropic organization. It was further emphasized after they stepped back as senior royals in 2020, relocated to the United States of America, and focused more on the Invictus Games.

During the "GMA" interview that was used for Harry's special, the Duke of Sussex was asked whether King Charles' cancer diagnosis could bring the royal family closer together and have a "reunifying effect." The family has been at odds since Harry and Meghan moved out, and even more so since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In response, Harry said, "Absolutely. Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families, I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together." The Duke spoke about how he's seen that effect in the families of Invictus soldiers he's worked with.

When asked how he feels about the physical distance between him and Charles during the cancer battle, Harry said he has to focus on his family but plans to see his father often.

"I have my own family, as we all do," Harry noted. "My family and my life in California is as it is. I've got other trips planned that would take me through the U.K. or back to the U.K., so I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can."
