A Coachella security guard is being sued by a man who claims he was the victim of an assault that occurred in 2022.
As you know, Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals, which takes place every year at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Individuals from all around the world fly in to see some of their favorite artists perform hit songs. Of course, with the gigantic crowd, the music festival hires several security guards to keep it as safe as possible.
However, it seems one of those security guards may have taken things a bit too far as he's been accused of "threatening, abusing, harassing, intimidating" an attendee.
Man Sues Coachella Security Guard Over Alleged Assault
According to documents, obtained by The Blast, a man filed a lawsuit over alleged assault and battery by security at 2022 Coachella Music Festival, claiming he was "unlawfully and intentionally approached [the security guard] in an aggressive manner and [the security guard] began threatening, abusing, harassing, intimidating, and/or threatening [the attendee] with physical violence causing Plaintiff to suffer damage."
The individual "believes that at all relevant times, all of the defendants, were the agents, servants, employees, and /or joint venturers of all of the co-defendants and were acting within the course, scope, and authority of their agency, employment, and/or venture and that all defendants, when acting as a principal, was negligent in the selection and hiring of each and every other defendant as an agent, employee, and/or joint venture," per the docs.
The incident occurred "inside, at, near, or on the grounds of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival," according to the suit.
The festival attendee claims he was "acting lawfully and in a reasonably foreseeable manner" the entire time, but the security guard continued to "threaten, abuse, harass, [and] intimidate" him.
"At no time did [the attendee] consent to any of the acts committed by [the security guard] alleged herein," the docs claim.
Security Guard Allegedly Left Man With Injuries
The man also claims his "injuries were a direct, proximate, and legal result of the wrongful conduct of Defendants Coachella Music Festival, LLC" and suffered "past and future medical and healthcare expenses, past and future lost earnings and diminution of earning capacity, past and future household services."
Adding, "past and future incidental expenses; and past and future non-economic damages, including physical pain, mental suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement, physical impairment, inconvenience, grief, anxiety, humiliation, and severe emotional distress," according to the suit.
He is suing for general damages, as established at the time of trial, special damages, as established at the time of trial, exemplary and/or punitive damages, as established at the time of trial, prejudgment interest, as allowed by law, according to proof, costs of suit; and such other relief as the court deems in the interests of justice.
