Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film Rights Sold To Disney+ For $75M

Taylor Swift has cashed in on her Eras Tour Concert film rights by selling it to Disney+.

According to reports, the Grammy Award-winning singer sold the rights for a whopping $75 million, and a newly expanded version will debut via the network on March 15

She had previously released a theatrical version and an extended cut for rent. The former broke the record for the highest-grossing concert film in the world following its release.

Swift is smiling to the bank after selling the film rights to her Eras Tour concert for $75 million. According to a report, Disney+ bought the rights to the film following fierce competition from Netflix and Universal Pictures.

On March 15, a newly expanded version of "The Eras Tour" will debut on the network, featuring five added songs not previously seen in other versions.

"#TSTheErasTourTaylorsVersion found itself running home to @DisneyPlus," read a statement from Taylor Nation on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"Starting March 15th, watch the entire concert film for the first time ever from beginning to end of the show, including 'Cardigan' and four additional songs from the acoustic section!"

Although the bonus songs were not noted in the statement, speculation has it that "Death by a Thousand Cuts," "You Are in Love," and "I Can See You," all of which she performed during her shows at L.A.'s SoFi Stadium, are among the contenders.

The newly expanded version comes after Swift debuted "The Eras Tour" (Extended Version) for rent at home to celebrate her 34th birthday in December.

She made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a clip of herself performing "Wildest Dreams" from her concert.

"Well, so, basically I have a birthday coming up and I was thinking a fun way to celebrate the year we've had together would be to make The Eras Tour Concert Film available for you to watch at home!" Swift captioned the post.

She added, "Very happy to be able to tell you that the extended version of the film, including "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer" and "Long Live" will be available to rent on demand in the US, Canada & additional countries to be announced soon starting on … you guessed it, December 13."

Swift has already made quite a fortune from the release of the theatrical version, adding to her big payday from Disney+. Directed by filmmaker Sam Wrench, the movie was shot over the course of three of the singer's sold out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Following its release in 2023, it garnered $96 million in ticket sales on its debut weekend, later earning over $250 million worldwide. With this enormous figure, it set a new record as the highest-grossing concert film of all time, displacing Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never," which was released in 2011.

Additionally, "The Eras Tour" film made history by surpassing $100 million domestically while also becoming the first independently released film to achieve this in just two weekends in the last decade.  On the award side, it garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Cinematic and Box-Office Achievement, adding to the slew of records it has broken.

At the recently held Grammys, Swift made history with her fourth Album of the Year award for "Midnights." Previously,  four artists—Frank Sinatra, Swift, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon—had three each to their name.

"For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy," Swift remarked during her speech.

She added, "It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award, too. All I want to do is keep doing this. So, thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much. Mind blown. Thank you so much!"

During the event, Swift also took home the award for the best pop vocal album. Additionally, she was up for four other awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
