AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is back for season eight Sunday night.
Rick and company are still struggling to survive among the dead — but, let’s be honest here, Negan is the issue.
We’re gearing up for an intense season and here’s what we know:
It’s ON
The season premiere also marks the series’ 100th episode and the show is not holding back. You can anticipate a battle in the premiere but, as is typical with TWD, don’t expect there to be any sort of real resolution.
The initial battle will kick off a series of fights throughout the season ultimately leading to a war.

Back to Basics
Many a fan of TWD was dismayed over the last season, but we’re (hopefully) getting back to what originally made the show a hit. Early reviews are saying that, based on the first episode, the quality of TWD is back on track. There is a noticeable shift in tone for the group fighting Negan. Despite major losses, things feel like they’re looking up.
Episode Unity
One of the biggest flaws in the show is arguably how increasingly fractured the group is becoming. Entire episodes have been devoted to a singular B or C team character and completely unknown groups of people. The show’s heavy hitters would be absent for weeks at a time, not only making the overarching plot hard to follow, but boring the hell out of viewers.
This season, showrunner Scott Gimple promises that the episodes will feature multiple characters.

Goodbye, pathetic Rick
Hello, bad ass Rick! We’ve missed you. The proverbial leader of the group was beaten down so much last season by Negan that the character was a shell of his former self. Andrew Lincoln told EW that season eight is his favorite in a long time and that Rick’s rediscovered that fiery leadership quality we’ve been missing.
Season 8 of “The Walking Dead” premieres Sunday, October 22 on AMC.
