Patrick Mahomes Sr. Can Travel To Super Bowl Despite DWI Arrest

Patrick Mahomes's dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., may still attend the Super Bowlto support his son despite being busted for a DWI over the weekend.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers on February 11 in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for the Mahomes family, they are in the spotlight ahead of the sporting event as Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Saturday, February 3 and charged with a DWI 3rd or more by the Tyler Police Department in Texas.

Following his arrest, Judge James Meredith -- who handled the case in Smith County, Texas on Sunday following Mahomes Sr.'s DWI arrest -- tells us he didn't impose any travel ban on the elder Mahomes as part of his bond conditions. This means that he will be allowed to watch his son play in Las Vegas in Super Bowl LVIII.

Of course, it's unclear if the Chiefs star will want him there now following the added distraction in the lead-up to the Big Game, but, at least in the eyes of the law, Mahomes Sr. will be allowed to leave the state for it.

Law enforcement officials say Mahomes Sr. has been barred from possessing or consuming alcohol and/or illegal drugs. He's also been required to have an interlock device on his car, as well as submit to random testing.

A spokesperson for the Tyler Police Dept. said on Monday morning cops initially pulled over Mahomes Sr. at around 8:30 PM for a routine traffic stop, although "evidence obtained during the stop led to the arrest."

According to reports, Mahomes Sr. was driving with an open 16-ounce Coors beer in the center console and had told police that he “had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar."

The arresting officer stated that “based on the totality of the circumstances, I believed Patrick [Mahomes Sr.] was impaired to a perceptible degree while operating a motor vehicle in a public place.”

This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has been arrested, as he has a handful of mugshots in the system from over the past 15 years.

This latest charge, however, specifies that he has had two previous DWI convictions, meaning this is his third, which is a Third Degree Felony. The maximum fine is $10,000.00, and the maximum prison sentence is 10 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) penitentiary.

Per The Blast’s previous report, “A conviction for a third DWI will result in a minimum prison sentence of two years and a maximum of ten years in prison (not a county jail). Even if you are granted probation, you will have to serve at least ten days in jail as part of a plea agreement. This usually cannot be waived.”

If convicted, he faces a minimum amount of jail time, but The Blast can confirm he's out on bond. It remains to be seen if he travels to Las Vegas to support his son in the Super Bowl.
