A character performer, who portrays Moana in Disney World's 'Fantasmic!' show, had a bit of a fumble in front of the live audience and is now being slammed online.
For those who don't know, 'Fantasmic!' is a nighttime show that occurs nightly at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida. Throughout the show, guests can watch as Mickey Mouse faces his nightmares as Disney villains take over the stage. Aside from the iconic villains appearing in the show, fans will also watch as many heroes and heroines, including Moana, come to Mickey's rescue.
Unfortunately, the actress who was portraying Moana in a recent performance messed up in her part of the show and is now receiving some backlash.
Moana Fumbles During Disney's 'Fantasmic!' Show
During a recent performance of 'Fantasmic!', the character performer who portrays Moana in the show, fumbled the Heart of Te Fiti prop as she ran to the other side of the stage, causing her to backtrack and then arrive at her queue late.
While it may not have been noticeable to some, others are slamming the Cast Member for her mistake.
"girl you had one job," one fan said.
"The one who plays Moana is always the worst and they haven’t fixed that yet to someone better," another wrote.
Others, however, had Moana's back as one user said, "It’s okay Moana, you deserve a little grace. The Heart of Tefiti is small and she’s running barefoot. This is a live show and things like this are bound to happen. Still an amazing show worth seeing!"
As another chimed in, "Disney better not fire Moana. [It] ain't her fault that the Heart of Te Fiti falls while running, and she did a good job."
Disney's 'Fantasmic! Is 'Larger Than Life'
According to Disney, the show includes "stunning effects, thrilling stunts, dazzling pyrotechnics and rousing music" as this "larger-than-life show is painted on a grand canvas of dancing water and light."
Per Disney:
Fast asleep, Mickey Mouse dreams that he is a mighty sorcerer’s apprentice with the power to control water, color and magic. The Disney Villains—including Maleficent in the form of a towering, 40-foot-tall dragon—turn Mickey’s dream into a nightmare, but don’t underestimate the power of Mickey’s imagination!
There is another version of the show that takes place at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, however, the show is currently on hold as it experienced a fire last year.
As you may know, Disneyland Guests witnessed the Maleficent dragon animatronic go up in flames in the middle of a “Fantasmic!” performance. The Anaheim Fire Department confirmed that no one was injured as crew members worked quickly to extinguish the fire.
Last year's fire was not the first time a prop has malfunctioned and caught fire at Disney Parks. In 2018, the Maleficent Dragon parade float, part of the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom, caught fire at Walt Disney World. Luckily, it was quickly extinguished, and nobody was injured.
