The 35-year-old professional boxer ended up with a deep gash over his right eye, leading to the postponement of his heavyweight championship bout with Oleksandr Usyk, originally scheduled for February 17 in Saudi Arabia.

A photo was released by Queensbury Promotions, which left many, including his wife, shocked.

“My full body was shaking with nerves when he showed me the cut, [because] I wasn’t there with him,” Paris wrote after seeing the injury her husband suffered. “He sounded so pi--ed off and disappointed, but this is boxing (a very dangerous sport) and these things can happen.”

According to Queensberry Promotion, Fury's cut required urgent medical attention and extreme stitching. Due to the nature of the injury, he will need significant recovery time. This means that his upcoming bout has been postponed.

“I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition,” Fury said in a statement following the injury. “I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event, and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.”

He added, "I can only apologize to everyone affected, including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans, as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

"The cut, which opened above Fury's right eye, required urgent medical attention and significant stitching, and will obviously require a period of recovery, scuppering any possibility of the right with Usyk taking place on 17th February in Saudi Arabia," Queensberry Promotion announced following Fury's injury.

A spokesperson also released a statement, which read, "Whilst this is still breaking news it is clearly a massive disappointment, after the work that has been done by so many people to finally deliver this historic event to the world."

They added, "Once the doctors have appraised Tyson's eye, we will have a better idea of the period of recovery needed. Once known, we will work diligently with all the stakeholders and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reschedule this fight as soon as possible, and will, of course, keep everyone updated with developments."

Fury has held the World Boxing Council heavyweight title since 2020. There is no word on when the heavyweight championship bout with Oleksandr Usyk will occur.
