Lana Del Rey is officially cutting the newly controversial single “Cola” from her set list.
The singer addressed rumors the song was inspired by disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein for the first time. Del Rey spoke with MTV News, saying “when I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind.”
The lyric she’s referring to goes “Harvey’s in the sky with diamonds and it’s making me crazy …. All he wants to do is party with his pretty baby.”
Del Rey described a “benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual.” She admitted “I thought it was funny at the time and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward and I think they’re really brave for doing that.”
She says retiring the song is “The right thing to do.”
