Roses are red, violets are blue, now your ex can be a zoo feeder too!

While Valentine's Day may be more of a happy, loving holiday, there is a way to get some anger or sadness out because of an ex for a good cause. Many zoos and animal shelters have found unique ways to spite your ex while helping out an animal.

Depending on how angry your ex makes you, there are ways to get that frustration out while helping a zoo or shelter animal. Many different zoos across the country are offering a fun way to celebrate the holiday in a spiteful yet helpful way.

The San Antonio Zoo is holding their annual "Cry Me A Cockroach" Fundraiser.

"Be part of the global sensation and ex-terminate your past and support a noble cause with the Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser," it states on the zoo's website. "Symbolically name a roach, rat, or veggie after your ex or not-so-special someone and San Antonio Zoo will help squash your past, a true heartbreak healer, by feeding your selection to an animal resident."

This fun Valentine's Day activity will only set you back a few bucks, less than a box of chocolates or a dozen of roses. You can choose from a $5, $10, or $25 donation and will even get a digital downloadable Valentine's Day card that shows your support for the fundraiser and proof that you got some closure from an ex.

If you really have some anger to get out on an ex, you can even pay for a $150 upgrade, which includes a personalized video message to the recipient showing the roach, rat, or veggie being eaten by an animal.

Many of the zoo's Instagram followers had some fun in the comments of their post sharing news about naming a cockroach in honor of an ex.

"Why just one name? Can it be an all you can eat buffet?" one person asked. Another added, "Do you have an animal that will pick it apart as slowly as possible so as to prolong its suffering. Actually, I don't want a cockroach to suffer like my ex should."

The Bronx Zoo is also doing a similar fundraiser to get rid of the anger your ex has caused and help out a hungry animal.

This fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day has been a tradition for the Bronx Zoo for more than 10 years. For $15, you can name a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach after your ex, and you receive a digital certificate that confirms the name of your roach. You can also choose to upgrade and get socks and plushie or a virtual encounter.

If naming a cockroach after your ex isn't quite your speed of spite, there's another option that animal lovers can consider.

A New Jersey animal shelter is offering a unique way to meow back at your ex for Valentine's Day by naming a feral cat and having it spayed or neutered.

"Because some things shouldn't breed," a post reads on Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center's Instagram page.

The caption of the post explains what the $50 donation will do.

"Neuter Your Ex For Valentine’s Day! That’s right, for just $50 Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center will name a feral cat after your ex," the caption reads.

"The cat will then be spayed or neutered before being released back to their colony as part of our trap-neuter-return(TNR) program. TNR is a vital component of feral cat population control as it breaks the breeding cycle and stops the birth of unwanted cats in our community. Your donation ensures we can offer spay/neuter surgery at a reduced cost for community cats and their caregivers in need."

Many commented that they already donated or plan to.

"Donated! The real guy deserves to be neutered, but a cat with his name will do lol," one person wrote. Another added, "I am SCREAMING. This is hilarious. Please take all of my money."

In 2023, more than 600 cats were fixed and released thanks to the special program. So far this year, the fundraiser has raised more than $2,000, which will cover about 40 cats to get fixed, according to the New York Post.

Other zoos, museums, and shelters also offer fun Valentine's Day fundraisers including the El Paso Zoo, Lehigh Valley Zoo, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Richmond Wildlife Center and the Maui Humane Society.
