Robert Downey Jr. Breaks Silence On Margot Robbie's 'Barbie' Oscars Snub

Robert Downey Jr. is speaking out on Margot Robbieand her 'Barbie'Oscars snub, claiming the actress is "not getting enough credit."

As you may know, the ‘Barbie’ actress was not nominated for Best Actress for her role in the hit film, although she did receive a Best Picture nomination as a producer on the film.

Regardless, fans are still extremely upset about Robbie's Oscar snub as they feel strongly that she should have been nominated in the Best Actress category, especially since Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in the film.

Now, Robert Downey Jr., who was nominated alongside Ryan Gosling in the Best Supporting Actor category at the 2024 Oscars, is addressing the Oscars snub.

Downey Jr. recently spoke out about his recent nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the upcoming 2024 SAG Awards -- but he couldn't address the SAG Awards without mentioning the Oscars.

"This is a weird non-sequitur, but Margot Robbie's not getting enough credit — in my opinion — because America [Ferrera] has this amazing speech, and she nails it," Downey Jr. said of America Ferrera's iconic speech, which is more than likely what got her nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

"But it's the cut away to Robbie so actively listening. It's when I realize, oh, okay, now I see Greta's really on to something here, but it was Robbie who had to trust [her]," he added.

The 'Iron Man' actor then went on to open up about his own experience of having other actors take the lead while you stand back and let them have their moment.

"And let's not kid ourselves, it's hard when someone else has the f------- two-page passage," he continued, adding, "and they go 'alright, now let's jump in and get Bob!' And you're just like, 'I've been listening to this all day, now I have to listen to it and make it work?' "

Ryan Gosling also spoke out at the time the Oscar nominees were announced, agreeing with Robert Downey Jr. in retrospect to Robbie not getting enough credit. “To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling said of Gerwig and Robbie at the time.

Robbie herself did recently speak out regarding the 'Barbie' nominations, saying, "There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed."

Fans are also upset that Greta Gerwig was not nominated for the Best Director category.

"Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films," Robbie said of Gerwig's nub.

Greta Gerwig was, however, nominated for her screenwriter role in ‘Barbie’ for Best Adapted Screenplay.

In total, ‘Barbie’ received eight nominations. The 95th Oscars will air on Sunday, March 12, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
