President Joe Biden is reportedly hoping to gain pop star Taylor Swift's endorsement for the 2024 election, recognizing her influence on young voters. Swift's past support holds weight, as a reported 18% of voters are swayed by her endorsement.
The campaign strategically uses social media and influencers, emphasizing video content. Notwithstanding, Swift's impact especially remains pivotal to Biden's re-election strategy.
President Joe Biden Wants An Endorsement From Taylor Swift
Biden is exploring the influence of social media to support his re-election, eyeing none other than global superstar Taylor Swift.
According to a report by the New York Times, the presidential campaign aims to leverage Swift's popularity to engage young voters and secure financial support for the election, as recent polling suggests that 18% of voters are "more likely" or "significantly likely" to support a candidate endorsed by the pop star.
Biden's strategy also reportedly involves portraying former President Donald Trump as a threat to abortion rights and personal freedoms in the 2024 election.
For the 2024 election, the Biden campaign is strategically employing social media and engaging influencers through video content to connect with disinterested voters. The White House has previously hosted influencers to discuss healthcare, and during a California fundraising tour in December, Biden's team actively courted influencers.
In a recent North Carolina visit, Biden amassed millions of views after he responded to a student loan cancellation case. The man later posted the presidential visit to TikTok.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom Commends Taylor Swift For Getting Young People 'Activated'
As part of the social media campaign efforts, prominent Democrats also urged the president to prioritize engaging with Swift.
In September, California Gov. Gavin Newsom praised Swift's unique impact, stating: "Taylor Swift stands tall and unique. What she was able to accomplish just in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and that they should have a choice in the next election, I think, is profoundly powerful."
The "Out of the Woods" hitmaker has in the past leveraged her online influence for voter mobilization, as seen in a September 2023 post encouraging her 272 million followers to register, resulting in over 35,000 registrations.
President Biden could have multiple occasions to engage with Swift soon. With her boyfriend Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs securing a spot in the Super Bowl after a Sunday night playoff victory, the team might receive a traditional White House invitation in the event of a win, allowing players to bring guests—potentially including Swift.
Additionally, a state dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on April 10th provides another opportunity for a White House invitation.
The White House 'Alarmed' About The Circulation Of Al-Generated Deep Fakes
The White House could also invite the singer after she became a victim of AI-generated deep fake images. The sexually explicit images of Swift garnered tens of millions of views on platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Removal efforts of the non-consensual images took hours, prompting the platform to temporarily halt searches for the singer's name to curb the spread of these images.
Expressing concern over the proliferation of fake images, including disturbing instances involving deceased children, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, "We are alarmed by the reports of the circulation of false images. We are going to do what we can to deal with this issue."
Interestingly, even President Biden fell victim to AI-generated content during the New Hampshire primary, with voters receiving a robocall mimicking his voice advising them to skip the primary.
Why President Joe Biden Is Optimistic About Taylor Swift's Potential Endorsement
The Biden campaign is optimistic about Swift's potential endorsement, considering her support in 2020 when she endorsed Biden.
A viral clip from the Netflix documentary "Miss Americana" also highlighted the singer's determination to speak out against Donald Trump and his supporter, Marsha Blackburn, in 2020.
Recently, Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested the Pentagon's psy-op unit considered "turning Taylor Swift into an asset" during a NATO meeting to combat misinformation, a claim a Pentagon spokesperson promptly dismissed with a playful reference to Swift's song "Shake It Off."
Although Swift has been known to be politically outspoken in the past, it is yet to be seen how invested she will be in the upcoming presidential elections.
