Former MLB Pitcher Roy Halladay Dies in Plane Crash

Roy Halladay — who won 200 games and two Cy Young Awards during his 15-year baseball career — died Tuesday in a plane crash.

The accident occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, about 10 miles west of St. Petersburg, Florida, according to WTSP.

Halladay was the lone occupant of the ICON A5 light-sport aircraft, which he had just recently received. The aircraft was actually the first 2018 model the company produced and delivered to the late pitcher.

The Philadelphia Phillies just released a statement, saying, "We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladay’s untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire Phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of the most respected human beings to ever play the game. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we pass along our condolences to Brandy, Ryan and Braden."

Halladay was an active pilot who posted often about his flights on social media. He had been raving about how much he loved the A5.
