Selena Gomez Reflects On Her Body Transformation With Stunning Throwback Pics

Actress and singer Selena Gomez is admitting that her body transformation is here to stay.

Over the years, Gomez's figure has undergone several notable changes as a result of the impact of her autoimmune disease, lupus.

Taking to Instagram recently, she posted pictures of herself from years apart, reflecting on the change and how she remains “proud” of who she is.

Selena Gomez has had a tough couple of years when it comes to body changes, having previously been diagnosed with lupus, which forced her to undergo surgery.

In a recent post on her Instagram Story, she reflected on those changes by posting two pictures of herself, the first taken when she was 21 and the other during a getaway to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, last year.

In the initial photo, Gomez was captured wearing a zebra two-piece that showcased her exceptionally taut body. The accompanying caption read, "Today, I realized that I will never look like this again…" suggesting her acknowledgment that achieving her former shape might be an unattainable goal.

The subsequent snapshot featured a more curvy Gomez, dressed in a white top and black bottom set. In this image, she added a caption that she remained "proud" of her appearance despite the changes that have occurred.

She wrote, “I’m not perfect, but I am proud to be who I am… Sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me.”

While her health is a personal matter, Gomez has chosen to be candid about her condition and its impact on both her physical and emotional well-being.

In an interview with Elle in 2021, she opened up about how her numerous health issues took an emotional toll on her.

“My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks—these were all things that honestly should have taken me down,” the “Lose You To Love Me” singer told the publication at the time.

She added, “Every time I went through something, I was like, ‘What else? What else am I going to have to deal with?”

Finding a silver lining, Gomez pointed out that she later recognized that her struggles offered her a chance to help others.

"You’re going to help people," Gomez recalled telling herself. “That’s really what kept me going. There could have been a time when I wasn’t strong enough and would have done something to hurt myself.”

Sure enough, according to the BBC, Gomez has continued advocating for health issues, especially lupus.

Nonetheless, she hasn't allowed comments about her body to burden her, and she openly shared on a TikTok Live last year that she instead focused on being healthy and taking her medication.

"I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself," Gomez told fans at the time. "My medications are important, and I believe that they're what helps me."

For her advocacy, Gomez has received praise from fellow Lupus survivors, who said seeing the singer talk so openly about her experience meant a lot.

"Having someone like Selena stand up and shout above the rooftops has full support from myself and probably the whole lupus community," one person said, while another admitted that  Gomez’s bravery is "incredible.”

It’s no surprise that Gomez has continued to make public appearances, boldly showing off her looks.

Earlier in the month, she appeared on the Golden Globes red carpet wearing a striking red dress designed by Giorgio Armani. The designer outfit boasted an asymmetrical hemline and chic black embellishments, including cutouts adorned with black rosettes and a black waistband.

Gomez complemented the look with metallic red Christian Louboutin heels and an array of dazzling jewels. She also painted her nails with a fresh coat of black polish, matching the black rosettes.

For the Emmys, the actress showed up in a strapless black sequin dress that featured a sparkly black floral pattern and sheer mesh. It also came with an incredibly plunging neckline. She added to her look with a pair of strappy red heels, a diamond choker necklace, and other pieces of jewelry.
