Kim Kardashian Becomes Balenciaga's Brand Ambassador 1 Year After BDSM Scandal

Global fashion powerhouse Balenciaga has added reality TV star and business mogul Kim Kardashian as its newest brand ambassador.

Kardashian took to Instagram to release a statement, noting that their collaboration was built on "mutual trust and a commitment to doing what's right."

The partnership comes one year after the luxury label faced a scandal involving BDSM-themed child images, with Kardashian also receiving some smoke for not cutting ties with the brand.

At the time, she claimed to be "shaken" and "disgusted" by the images but has since gone on to participate in an ad for Balenciaga's upcoming summer 2024 collection.

The "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" alum has accepted the role of Balenciaga's brand ambassador. She took to Instagram to post a statement announcing the partnership and to share her joy on becoming the latest ambassador for the controversial fashion brand under its creative director, Demna Gvasalia.

The statement read, "For several years now, Balenciaga's designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments."

"This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna," she continued.

"For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what's right. I'm excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador," Kardashian shared.

The renowned fashion house faced severe backlash from the public in November 2022 when controversial images from its marketing campaign depicted children posing with BDSM-inspired items, per the Daily Mail.

The scandal sparked fierce condemnation, with many bashing the reality star for not severing ties with the brand. At the time, she claimed to be "shaken" and "disgusted" by the images and said she was "re-evaluating her relationship" with the brand.

Addressing the issue in an Instagram post, Kardashian stated she was quiet "not because I haven't been shocked and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened."

She continued, "As a mother of four, I have been shaken by those disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard, and anything against it should have no place in our society - period."

Having deleted the images from their social media pages, she commended the brand on the way it handled the issue, noting that they "understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again."

Her deal with Balenciaga comes days after the reality TV star and her ex-husband Kanye West put on a united front as they attended their son Saint's basketball game together in Los Angeles. Their amicable appearance came on the heels of West's recent titanium dental makeover.

The estranged couple were seen chatting before Saint took to the court and were joined in the stand by their 6-year-old daughter, Chicago. However, they notably kept their distance, opting to sit a few chairs away from each other.

Kardashian's 10-year-old daughter, North, shared a makeup-free selfie of her famous mother on their joint TikTok account, showcasing the fashion mogul's natural skin texture featuring her wrinkles.

The snapshot captures Kardashian under a shady overhang with her youngest daughter, Chicago. North seemed to be poking fun at her mum as she captioned the photo, "such a good picture," with several crying laughing emojis.

Other photos had the reality star hold up two peace signs as she prepped for a snowy getaway.
