Sarah Ferguson Reveals She's In 'Good Spirits And Grateful'
The Duchess of York is not allowing her latest health challenge to affect her as she revealed that she is in a good head space and appreciates the well-wishes she has gotten since the news of her second cancer diagnosis was revealed.
Taking to her Instagram page, Sarah said, "I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery."
She continued, "It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was. Naturally, another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I'm in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support."
Sarah Ferguson Says Her Experience Shows Why It's Important To Check For Signs
In her heartfelt post, the duchess noted that her health situation should serve as an example of why it is essential to do regular checkups and look out for the "emergence of new moles."
"I believe my experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color, and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma and urge anyone who is reading this to be diligent," Sarah stated.
She then went on to thank the medical teams that supported her for both her experiences with cancer, adding that she's resting at her home with her family by her side.
Sarah concluded: "I am incredibly thankful to the medical teams that have supported me through both of these experiences with cancer and to the MAYRLIFE Clinic for taking gentle care of me in the past weeks, allowing me time for recuperation. I am resting with family at home now, feeling blessed to have their love and support."
How The Duchess Of York's Malignant Melanoma Was Discovered
According to a report yesterday, Sarah was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a kind of skin cancer that starts in the melanocytes. This was discovered while the duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy to deal with her earlier breast cancer issue.
"Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York, has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma," a rep for Sarah told Us Weekly.
They added, "Her dermatologist asked that several moles be removed and analyzed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous."
According to research, about 25% of melanoma comes from moles, and Ferguson's situation aligns with this category. While the precise cause of all melanomas remains unclear, factors such as exposure to ultraviolet light and genetic influences are considered contributing elements.
