Republican presidential hopeful and Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has bowed out of the 2024 presidential race.

The politician announced his exit with a video on social media, revealing why he chose to run for the seat of power in the first place. In his video, he noted that he could not ask his staffers to continue without having a "clear path to victory."

DeSantis has made way for other Republican presidential hopefuls by dropping out of the contest for the party's ticket for the 2024 election.

In a 4-minute video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Florida state Governor announced his intention to no longer run for president while listing the reasons he ran in the first place.

Amongst all he said, DeSantis implied that his second-place finish in Iowa played a huge part in his decision to drop out of the race.

He said, "Now, following our second-place finish in Iowa, we've prayed and deliberated on the way forward. If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, I would do it. But I can't ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources without a clear path to victory."

DeSantis noted, "It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance."

The governor then endorsed Donald Trump, claiming he is a "superior" choice to President Joe Biden and better than fellow Republican Nikki Haley.

The Florida governor stated in his video that he would support Trump for president and claimed he was a better alternative to President Biden and Nikki Haley.

DeSantis said of Trump: "[Republicans] watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare this day to attack him. While I've had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the incumbent, Joe Biden, that is clear."

"I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge. He is my endorsement because we can't go back to the old republican guard of yesteryear. A repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents," the governor added.

DeSantis further claimed that the days of "putting Americans last," "kowtowing to large corporations," and "caving to woke ideology are over."

Following DeSantis' surprising announcement, several Republicans flooded the governor with their two cents on the matter of his suspended campaign.

One X (formerly Twitter) account wrote, "The fact that you immediately endorsed Trump is a reminder of why you never had a chance. You ran as a Trump 2.0 instead of presenting an alternative to the corrupt former president."

Another person commented, "You need to fire a lot of people - this is assuming your candidacy was a legitimate attempt to win."

A third netizen said, "You ran the worst Presidential campaign in American history but at least you came to your senses and endorsed Trump rather than Haley now that it counts. Thank you. Come back to Florida and kick a-- here. Remind us why we all fell in love with you."

"Wrong DeSantis ends his pathetic presidential campaign, endorses Trump, and attributes a quote to Winston Churchill, who never said those words. So on point," wrote a fourth person, referencing the caption on DeSantis' video, which was a fake Winston Churchill quote.

One more person said of DeSantis' endorsement of Trump, "It's a cult. They receive the worst insults imaginable and still go back to Trump to kiss his ring."

The 2024 presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5th. At the moment, it's unclear if Trump will be able to run for office due to the multiple lawsuits against him and his name being barred from the Colorado state ballot.
